Pole Dancers that take it to another level

Earlier this year, I saw a petition on FaceBook that said that pole dancing should be in the Olympics, which I thought was funny. But since then, I've seen some pole dancing (on youtube, mostly) where the dancers really do take it to another level.

The most recent one was Miss Pole Dance 2009, which was hosted in Jamaica. I've seen others where women work double-poles (no pun intended) that looked like a vertical version of the olympic horizontal bars.

What do you guys think.

It certainly requires coordination, dexterity and good balance. I would say it requires as much as most other gymnastic events. I don't think that it should be a separate competition though. It should probably be integrated into the standard gymnastic routines.

However once you make it subordinate to gymnastics you remove most of the erotic context. I really wouldn't want to see Marry Lou Rhetton doing a pole dance. I suppose the judges for the competition could have beer, sniffer seats and be able to stuff bills in the athletes G-string's?

It's good to see that all those years of ballet, modern dance, gymnastics, cheerleading and skating lessons that daddy paid for can be put to profitable use in society. Here's a $20 sweetie, show me the beef lips!

The competitor number plates would be a bit of a bummer though

It'll be interesting if they induct it as a sport. They'll have to work in male and female pairs though. The girl has to dance and the guy has to work as many one dollar bills in there as he can.

It has cropped up here and there as an actual workout routine, such as Yoga or Hip Hop dance classes at your local Gold's, and is acquiring some respect for its intensity as well.

This wouldn't be the case if it wasn't challenging athletically, and thus, a potential competitive sport.
