    Default harmonica help

Does anyone have some experience with harmonica? I would like to play Neil Young and hopefully eventually some blues, but am on a budget. Currently, I do not know anything about harmonicas other than the keys they come in, so any info would be helpful. I do know that many of the Neil Young songs that I like use a harmonica in the key of G.

cant go wrong with a hohner or lee oskar. in blues a song in "E" you would usually use a harmonica in the key of "A" and a song in "G" you would use a "C" harmonica, so you use a harmonica thats the sub-dominant of the root note, but in folk bob dylan-y stuff i think its usually in the same key of the song. if you can afford to get a few different keys just play about and see what sounds good to you.

Some players swear by soaking the reeds before playing.

At all costs, avoid the harmonica preparation technique practiced by the disgruntled road crew of a well-known Belfast singer-songwriter. (Truly, the BROWN sound!)

So's not to irritate those who hate harps I just practiced my bass .

Soaking is old old school with the new plastic bodied harps it's a none issue .

Air tightness is the key issue here , wooden bodied harps would get swollen and then shrink so they lost their air tightness . Soaking works but at a maintenance factor that makes plastic bodied harps popular .

    Wolf :

Your writing appears to show maybe a person who's been traumatized by bad harmonica playing by maybe a wannbee Blues man .

Hey man even me the consummate harp player ( I have earned the right to claim ) get uptight over these type of musicians too like you . In my case it's any wannabee musician that I have problems with when they try to get on stage with me and others I play with .

So easy man he just wanted to get a direction to go on and didn't spam us , it's not like he walked in front of you while you were about to take a ride on a solo in front of a crowd .

    Easy .

'Cane, I'm in a mood to gamble. I wager that mushed up breakfast cereal and household fluff cannot possibly taste as bad as sweaty roadie's butt crack. Let's ask Ivan!

It grew while I was gone!

    Thanks for the added advice.
For the record the forum says Guitar Shop: Guitars, guitar accessories other musical instruments. (underlining added for emphasis)
I will try to be considerate of those around me when I get a harmonica.

    So - -
What kind of guitar do you play - style of music - who made you mad and insane to take up the guitar and now the harmonica .
