Alright. Plugged in and wailed today.

The bridge position is BEEFY with the standard bridge pickup (highway 1).
The Piledriver doesn't give me any readings on the multimeter. I'm wondering if I ever actually tested it now... Glad I tried this out.
Position 2 is almost out of phase... it's a bit thin compared to what I'm used to. But my wiring was correct, I triple checked. Not sure what was off there. Especially as position 4 (series) sounds as it should.
Would out of phase pickups on a Tele influence the Series setting?
Anyway now that both pickups are balanced volume wise I'm not so annoyed at trying the neck pickup on it's own and it sounds VERY nice indeed. With distortion it's big and thick, with clean tones it's very jazzy. Lovely sound.

A multimeter is a beautiful tool! Solves a lot of headaches.

So what'cha gonna do about the dead bridge pickup? It's probably a broken wire and if you look closely you'll probably see it right on top of the flat work. It'll lead to the soldering terminals.

I get so many Tele pickups returned to me by guys who insist I sold them a defective pickup. But it's really that the guy broke the pickup himself when clumsily installing the pickup.

Oops...I didn't mean to imply that YOU were clumsy installing the pickup!

Nah I checked this, it's all good on the outside front. I get no continuity reading between either the wires or the blobs on the pickup itself. And I can't remember whether it was this thin sounding before I got to Amsterdam, so it's possible it got damaged after I'd installed it.

Aand ok it definitely sounds out of phase now. I feel I'm playing through a wah in position 2, especially past the 12th fret on the lower strings. I'll reverse the hot/ground on the neck pickup. I think the PD and Fender pickups were out of phase before which is why I may have reversed these already, and kept them reverse after the swap.

AH! She lives! I fixed the switch (was grounding my bridge pickup's hot wire because of a bent lug) and fixed the phase issue. AWESOME!!!
