    Default Guitar cables?

For years i have used normal, crappy cables. People are telling me im crazy, and that i should go invest in a better guitar cable. They say it will make my tone better, and clearer. I have heard all different names. Mogami, Dimarzio, George Ls, Monster, Evidence, Planet wave, etc etc. I just want quality cables. Has anyone here used Excetylene guitar cables? I have heard some good things about them, but cant find any info on them like the other brands. Any info on the Quality of these cables? Any suggestions on what to use?

I bought a rack of George L plugs and a couple of spools of George L cable and that's all I've used for some time now. I haven't tried everything but the George L's are my favorites that I have tried. Eric Johnson likes them too.

I cant find anything on Excetylene cables anywhere here, or on the net. Their website claims hundreds of artists use their products. I cant even find reviews on them. Has anyone even heard of them? http://www.excetylene.com/catalog/

Never heard of them until now. Perhaps, they are sold only on the Internet? (If so, why?)

Personally, I am always suspicious of any product that uses T & A in its advertising. It is as if the product alone is not enough to grab any attention.

OTOH, if the prices are reasonable, what do you have to lose by giving a few of these cables a go? They cannot possibly be any worse than your existing cheapies.

Best deal on a good cable? Go to Guitar Center and get one of the 18'6" Rapco Road Hog cables--about $15.

You have to spend a LOT more money to get a better cable!

I've never been into buying the "hi end" cables. I look at it this way, my favorite guitarists(Townshend, Rundgren, Scholz, Lifeson, etc....)used plain old ordinary guitar cables and in my opinion they have great tone, so why should I go out and spend $100.00 on a 20 ft copper lined, shielded, hand braided, what ever the hell else guitar cable? Just a thought......

Real cheap cables can be noisy... I've had both Monster Cable and Mongami cables break on me (their plugs). I have store brand cables from Guitar Center and Sam Ash that have lasted me fine. The cheap store brand cables are vastly better than the cheap cables I grew up with.

What Monster and Mongami cables are good for is the lifetime guarantee. You buy them- if they fail, take them back to Guitar Center, and they give you new ones. That's when they're worth the money.

I prefer Planet Waves over George L's if you're going to make custom cables

I prefer Peavey cables. USA made, lifetime guarantee, Nutric ends, and they don't break the bank.

I like Planet Waves for prepackaged cables, but if you want DIY, it is hard to beat Mongami wire and Neutrik plugs.

The screw on ends on the George Ls are crap. I will go on record to say I hate them! I DO understand the convenience factor of being able to screw on a new end real quick, but what screws on will screw off and that's the part I hate. I am not even a gigging musician and run into issues of the George L ends coming a little loose making an awful noise until you find the culprit and fix him.

The cable itself is great NO DOUBT, but I hate having to constantly check to make sure they are tight and IMO they dont hold up well when you plug them in and then unplug them from pedals a decent amount.

I tend to agree with the author of the article below on all points George L. That reminds me..I need to inventory all my George L ends and sell them in the For Sale area here! LOL!

Ok, just recieved the cables today. First off, this product is great. The minute i plugged in, i could hear the difference when compared to the cheapies. Not only that...this thing is constructed like Military-grade weaponry. Tough as steel. Check these guys out. They make a bunch of different grades of cables, and wireless too. Plus, only took a day to get here. Great customer service. http://www.excetylene.com/catalog/in....php?info_id=7
