    Default Jackson Model 5 magnet

G'day,I purchased a Jackson model 5 a couple of weeks ago on Evilbay, when it arrived I checked it and found it had one dead coil. I picked it up cheap,so I'm not too pissed off about it,and I've got a couple of other half dead humbuckers floating around,so the remains will get used in something.
Just want to know if anyone knows what type of magnet these pickups used ?
I always thought they were a ceramic, but this one has an alnico of some description.

    Any ideas???

    Cheers,PJ

I have no idea about the magnet in the Jackson Model 5 HB. I do know, however, that combining two half-dead humbuckers can yield interesting results.

I once fell for buying a pair of dirt cheap Gibson 498T/490R humbuckers on eBay. The reason why they were so cheap turned out to be that the previous owner had attempted to remove the chromed covers with a flat-bladed screwdriver. Ouch! Only the slug coils worked.

I set to with screwdrivers and soldering iron to mount the surviving coils onto one baseplate. The finished article is kinda like the DiMarzio Bluesbucker's ugly cousin. It has the same intentional coil-to-coil DC resistance imbalance and the same pseudo-P90 tone.

Doesn't have the usual Jackson "J80C" or "J50" etc.,just a small oval sticker with "Jackson model 5" on it.
It had the old style embossed black plastic cover on it,which I removed, and it has the black slugs and screws. I'm leaning towards it being a J80 because the functional coil is reading 8.2K,but I thought someone on the board might know for sure.
It looks like the other old Jacksons I have, but without the usual I.D. sticker.

    Cheers,PJ

If the pickup sticker on the back ends in a 'C' it's ceramic. Otherwise some sort of Alnico.
