Default GFS Pickups: about looks more than tone?

I've read a lot of the threads here about GFS pickups. Based upon what I've gathered here and several other places, it would seem to me like they probably have a few different tones if you compare their humbuckers to p90's to single coil pickups. Do GFS pickups prioritize looks over sound/tone? Now, this is all based on what I've read online. I haven't purchased a set and tried them in a guitar.

I've purchased a number of things over the years that were misinformed and I ended up losing money over. If I get a set of GFS pickups, I don't even know that I could re-sell them if they didn't work out. So I guess I just don't want to spend hard earned money on something if it's not certain what I'm getting. Maybe I just answered my own question here.

they have some gems in their pickup lineup. The vintage and hot vintage strat pups are really nice imo, as are the A5 mini buckers. I do not like any of the humbuckers ive tried. One other pup i really like is the open face fat polepiece tele neck pup.

    I havent tried the p90s.

Everybody seems to rave about the Crunch rails, and Crunch Pats.

I've tried several GFS pups/sets. Their 60s vintage strat pups are very good, the other two strat sets I tried ranged from OK to lousy. I found the 59 humbuckers pretty useless as well. I haven't tried anything else since, although their Mean90 P90-in-a-bucker housing gets a lot of good press to the point I've seriously considered caving in.

My advice? Buy some good name brand pups, buy used if your budget is tight.

The VEH is a good one. I liked both Rails and PATs.

Their Mean 90s are DA BOMB. To my ears they're the ones that come closer to an original P-90 but in humbucker format. Head and shoulders above Gibson P-94s and even Phat Cats.

I haven't tried any other from their lineup.

GFS do some nice pickups, I've got a pair of retrons NYII and NYIII in my Gretsch - they're probably nothing like TV Jones' but they are nowhere near their price.

I think GFS can be a step up from cr@ppy stock pickups depending which ones you go for. But they're not as good dynamically as SD's.

Try a set they're very inexpensive and if you don't like them sell them on, GFS are a well know enough name to re-coup some of your costs.

You can only judge a pup with your ears not what you read on line
I only know 3 chords but I play 'em real good
