What I don't get is why.

Is that even supposed to be a Gibson "guitar" of some sort?
1200$ for a half-done gibby, it better be...

According to Gibson, they don't let half finished instruments go..................

It could possibly be one that someone has stripped, but I just don't see it coming from the factory that way.

    From the auction:
Q: Hi, just want to know if you can tell me more about these guitars, where do they come from? are they orignal gibson parts? What would shipping cost to Europe, Spain. Thanks Mike
A: The guitars were part of an artist program. Artists were given the guitar to design, paint, stain, sculpt as they wanted. They were then returned to Gibson for electroincs, final inspection and testing. If all was well they got a serial number. They then went on display. The only part included is the body and the hard case all 100% Gibson. Shipping to Europe $100 fpr USPS priorty service

My initial thought was "Stolen from the factory." Not sure about the whole "artist program" the seller talks about.

Looks nice but with all the fakes floating around... hmmm... I don't know why Gibson would "give away" an unfinished guitar...

Check out the route for the electrics cavity. Doesn't look right to me. Also, one of the pics showing the pickup cavities has, what appears to be, a blob of glue in the lower corner of the pickup cavity. I think it's bogus. It looks really nice, but I don't think it's legit.
I started out with nothing...and I still have most of it left.

I´m fairly certain that it is in fact legit.

It´s not the first time that I´ve seen an unfinished Gibson or Fender left over from one of those funky art programs, and the case is correct for one of those as well (and not particularly easy to acqure by itself diue to the special silkscreen), as is the general "finish ready" condition of the guitar. And while the rout does look a bit funky it wouldn´t be the first time I´ve seen a ES that looks wierd, as long as it´s under the cover it doesn´t matter from an engineering standpoint

The headstock doesn't throw anyone off? I've NEVER seen a Gibson with a headstock shaped like that.

Normally I`d agree, but Gibson has done the occasional 3+3 straight string pull experiment in the past and they all ended up looking similar to that one, so I´m giving the seller the benefit of the doubt becasue everything else lines up and his explanation is plausible.

Here´s an example of a Gibson with that Straight String Pull headstock, the Pat Martino

or the MK81 had a PRSish stock

Zerb, any idea as to why they don't do more headstocks like that? Tradition or is there something wrong with them (as made by Gibson).

They look fine as heck, a lot better than the usual head.

Tradition is probably the main reason, the classic "open book" headstock has a certain iconic quality...

IMO it looks better too, the PRS wannabe semi straight is ok, but the slender SSP stock just looks like a malformed dildo...

That's really impressive - the break lines are so straight - that's a huge benefit to tuning stability, it's a shame they dont do that more often.

I've got a few paper rubbings of some old Gibby snakeheads, if anyone wants to plug tuner holes on their LP and go with something from the 30's.
