I am very, very pleased to announce that Lew's Cancer Fund is officially no longer accepting donations.
Thanks to the excellent news Lew has revealed in this thread, we can now put a cap on the donations and let the money that was collected go toward paying Lew's insurance deductible.
Lew contacted me this weekend and expressed his immense gratitude for all the help he has received from the truly good friends and considerate people here on the Seymour Duncan User Group Forum, and asked that the fund cease with donations in light of the latest development regarding his insurance coverage and treatment.
Overall, here is what we raised:
- Duration of Fundraiser: 27 days (10/19/09 - 11/15/09)
- Total number of donations: 63
- Total amount raised: $2,248.87 USD
Some quick math tells me that
- we averaged 2.3 donations per day,
- with a total average of $83.29 raised per day,
- and the average donation amount was $35.69, though that's being pulled up by a few outliers.
I personally want to thank EVERY SINGLE PERSON who contributed. The outpouring of support has been absolutely inspiring. The donations, fundraiser auctions, service revenue proceeds, and help/suggestions were unprecedented and amazing.
While to some scales it may not seem like we raised much money, the amount of help this money will provide Lew cannot be measured. Even WITH insurance coverage, his treatment is very costly. What we have done is helped carry the load during this transition time, but we've done something else, too...
We've all come together and DONE SOMETHING TO HELP SOMEONE WHO NEEDED IT!!!
I am so proud to be a member of this community that I can't put it into words.
Thanks again, everyone.

Lew has cancer.
He needs expensive treatment.
The funding for this treatment has been taken away from him.
Regardless of your political affiliations, opinions, philosophical ideals or preconceptions, those three sentences are undeniably true. Reggie mentioned in another thread that we should all just shut up and help Lew, and I could not agree more. I think a lot of us would agree on that, and would like to have a way to help him out that only took a few clicks and a moment of our time.
This is a great community - we have so many awesome members here - and this forum is "home" to many of us on the web. I'm not suggesting we try to change the world, but I think it would be really great if we could come together and make a positive impact on the life of one of our own - a good guy who has helped a lot of folks here with different things and has always been around to offer advice and support, even now as he goes through an extremely trying time.
So, in the spirit of togetherness, good will, and love, I have created a donation account with PayPal. This account is only for Lew, to help mitigate the cost of his treatment (in whatever way he sees fit). The account info for all pertinent accounts has already been sent to Lew via email, which he would be able to verify should anyone have any concerns as to my credibility or trustworthiness.
We have a chance here to do something good. Those interested can click the link below to make a direct donation of as much or as little as they want - whether it's for only $1.00 or for $100.00:
NOTE: You do not need a PayPal account to donate. Other payment methods are accepted (credit card, bank account, etc.). However if you do have a PayPal account and are skeptical about using the button, you can send a donation directly by sending via PayPal to (thanks everyone!).
