Default Guess the pickup in this video?

Hey all, rather random post, was wondering if anyone knew the seymour duncan he uses in this video? JBSH4 with 500k volume pot perhaps?

Wasn't sure wether or not the pickup lounge was the place to post this, sorry if its wrong.

It's a JB, not sure of the pot value though.
You can run over a Tele with a pickup truck, pick it up - and it'll still play out of tune

I know that in a few of the early videos with one of his beat up strats there was a Bill Lawrence 500XL in the bridge.

Hmm, that was a good pickup, he used it at woodstock (if its white). However anyone good with pots? Id really like to nail that setup ... the crunch just shocks my spine >.<

    I think its a 500k, but could be a meg :S

Its really bugging me, and ive been advised before he could be using a big muff pedal.

The JB or the 500XL will give you that tone. Their tonal curves are similar. If you want more clarity go with the 500XL, if you want more dirt go with the JB. Both pickups have strong treble response so they can be used with 250k pots to round them off and warm them up. Use a 500k pot if you have a rosewood board and 250k if you have maple. If you like really bright and resonant you could go with a 500k pot. I used to have a strat with a Dimarzio PAF Pro in the bridge, 500k pot and maple neck that could nail his tone.

Hmmm, what about a magnet change, could i brighten things up a little there? What did your Dimarzio have?

You wouldn't need to do a magnet swap with a JB, because no swap would make it any brighter. You wouldn't make a PAF Pro any brighter either with a magnet swap. The Bill Lawrence USA is epoxy potted so there's no possibility to swap magnets.

    • PAF Pro = Warm, smooth, muscular and fluid. The most bass and midrange of the group with A5 magnet.
    • JB = Aggressive, bright, gritty and hot. The most distortion of the group with A5 magnet.
    • 500XL = Clear, bright, aggressive and resonant. I am not sure if it is a ceramic or A5?
