Good, Cheap Patch Cables?

Hey guys, i've been thinking of making some patch cables myself, but then I saw these ones by Planet Waves: http://store.daddario.com/category/1...s_Patch_Cables

I've seen them online for $17 for a three pack, it's a great price considering a G&H or Switchcraft plug cost $4 each, plus the work and time i'd have to spend on making the cables.

Any opinions on these Planet Waves?
There's also the more expensive Custom series cables: http://store.daddario.com/category/1...o_Patch_Cables

Any big difference between the two models which would justify spending more on the Custom series? Especially considering that these are patch cables?

It worries me a bit that I won't be able to fix\resolder these myself if they break, since the plugs are sealed.

Also, any other cheap patch cables you guys recommend?

I don't think good and cheap go together when we talk about patch cables... However I think Planet Waves has a make them yourself kit which is more cost effective than buying buying already made cables and you customize the lengths to your needs.

George L sells kits consisting of cable and jacks so a person could make any size cables they need. Very simply done, too. I use 'em.

Only problem I find George L's design doesn't last long. Easy fix cut off a centimetre and redo but I find they fail often that said I don't have a decent device for cutting (have used scissors, very sharp knives etc).

Been makeing my own for quite some time,, usually Switchcraft plugs and jacks, and whatever GOOD cable I have at the time..
Its quite eazy, and a handy skill when it comes to setting up a pedalboard..

I've been using Spectraflex baldee cables on my board for a while... love my spectraflex cables. Not too expensive... on par with other good cables but they sound great & take a ton of abuse. Planet Waves kit isn't too bad... like $12 a cable but the connectors are huge. If you need "cheap" above all else then get a pack of rainbow molded cables... just don't freak out when none of 'em work in a year.

Depends on how many you need but seriously the best you could ever get are gorge L's IMO. Why? simply because they are solderless and if they ever break you can very quickly in a matter of seconds repair and keep playing. So far none of mine have failed. If you don't plug/unplug em 100 times a week and abuse them they should never fail and even if they do like i just said its a matter of seconds, not even minutes, literally to fix. On the plus side, if it matters at all to you, they sound freakin great and are the best cables i've tried to date.

So yes.. they might seem expensif but when you consider that over the years those cheap patch cables that fail you every now and then and you have to buy new ones constantly you would have gone and paid for your gorge Ls by then. They'll never sound as good either or be reliable and on top of that i stil have over 2 feet of cable left over from the kit that i've never used so that means ill never need to buy patches again more than likely.

Use a Olfa tool or similar and the blade NEEDS to be super sharp. In other words brand new. It goes trough it like butter and creates a really clean and straight edged cut. They're cheap, 10$ or so and is a tool everyone should have IMO not only for this but it serves a ton of purposes when you need to cut something quickly and efficiently around the house.

I have my share of storebought here too..
But once you learn to solder decent and use good stuff when building them, you will save both time (running to the store to replace defective stuff) money and frustraition..
Your amp can only sound as good as its weakest link..

Again i'm only looking for cheap stuff, that means around $8 a cable- the price of two G&H angled plugs. If I won't find anything good i'll just stick to my original plan and build them myself.

I bought this 6 pack of 6" Hosa patch cables over 2 years ago when I was strapped for cash and after many shows and much abuse they all still work!
