    Default World Painted Blood

I wasn't sure at first. The leaks and "official" tracks I've heard on the internet weren't exactly inspiring to me. The mixes sucked. They almost sounded like demos. Some of the the riffs weren't great or inspiring to my ears. I've had this for two days now and it's infectious. I think for what the riffs are they all fit and serve their purpose. I don't think it measures up with the holy trinity of Slayer albums but I think they could possibly have a second holy trinity if they can come out with one more along the lines of this and Christ Illusion.

There are some very catchy beats and that old school swing they used to get through riffs as opposed to rhythmic chugging. Some old school style Slayer riffs like Cleanse The Soul and Read Between The Lies (two of my favorite Slayer tunes).

I highly recommend this album (shocker that I'd recommend a Slayer album). I'm not the biggest fan of the Bostaph years and think Dave Lombardo does a much better job than he ever did. Perhaps thats the major difference. Any way you cut it I think this new Slayer album is pretty **** good. Thoroughly enjoying it.

The only negative I can find is the production. You can definitely tell it's been recorded at different times as the guitars just sound more alive on some tracks. Sometimes they sound farty like someone forgot to turn the gain or the master volume up in the studio. Still not terrible and easily overlooked.

I heard Angel of Death on XM today and it still amazes me how they got the best production of all time with Reign in Blood in freakin' 1986. It captured them perfectly. You'd figure they could replicate that with all the super computers around today.

I'm sorry man, gotta disagree with you here. I cannot stand this album, found it terrible. Production is absolutely atrocious, as well - not surprising considering it was done by the same dude as Death Magnetic.

No matter what, I'll give them credit for the best album title. World Painted Blood is most definitely a Slayer-worthy album title.

What about World Under Blood, Deron of CKY's awesome metal side project?

I haven't heard but one track yet on the radio which I found very good. I'll get the album in a couple of weeks, I expect it to be excellent as always.

Agreed. The production is pretty rotten. Luckily the contents therein are still worth listening to unlike Death Craptastic. This Feldman/Fieldman whatever his name is guy needs to be fired. He's absolutely terrible. Slayer manages to save the album on their own though.

Aside from a few spots where the guitars sounded a bit "sterile", the production was miles ahead of Death Magnetic. (If you can get past the pumping compression on Death Magnetic, listen to the guitars. EMGs *can* sound better than that.)

But song-wise, a GREAT album. Unlike Metallica, Slayer's never had a bad album. They just had a few albums that weren't as good as others.

    Agreed

I gave Death Magnetic a shot. My patience has worn through after St. Anger. For the better part of the last 20 years Metallica was always number one for me. Now there isn't anything relevant they have done since Justice. A few gems here and there. On a whole though, no album is worth listening to since then. It does not make me happy to come to that realization either.

Even the Bostaph years were better than Metallica's wilderness years.

Yeah, even admitting that DM is the best thing Metallica's done in the last 20 years is sad. I was 11 when I started listening to them, with Justice, and then picked up all the rest. I tried and tried and tried listening to the black album when it came out, but it just didn't do anything for me. Then I went back to listening to Anthrax. I'm hoping Anthrax's next one lifts them back up. Even if their last few albums have been lackluster, they don't have the attitude that Metallica does.

I loved the black album when it came out. Now I can't listen to it except for God That Failed and My Friend Of Misery. The rest is just ****. Load and Reload had their moments, few as they may be.

Anthrax on the other hand... I wasn't a big fan of Stomp442 when it came out but it's grown on me. Sound Of White Noise still has some great stuff and I think Volume 8 was probably my favorite since Persistence (my all time fave right next to Spreading the Disease). We've Come For You All does nothing for me except maybe a track or two. The next one won't bring them back to the Belladonna days which were the glory days for me.

I really liked Stomp 442, I wore out the tape. Sound Of White Noise was great, didn't really care for Vol 8 or WCFYA, aside from one or two songs each.

I like the Belladonna era *music* better (I started listening to them right when State Of Euphoria came out, that's my favorite album), but like Bush's vocals better. Greater Of Two Evils is my favorite Bush album.

Nothing ANY of the big four have done since about 1990 is as good as "Cadillac Rock Box" man, how can you not love WCFYA?!!!

As for this new Slayer album, I never even knew there was one. I didn't like Christ Illusion at all, their guitar tone totally sucks nowadays and it ruins the music for me.

New Nile and Vader ones got me excited though.

Cadillac Rock Box is awful... good lord. WCFYA is a goofy album.

Slayer's guitar tone hasn't been that great since South Of Heaven if you ask me. But that didn't detract from Seasons one bit. Not a big fan of the tone but whatever.
