Got the Long and Mcquade Boxing day catalog today in the mail and saw these. I like them. What are your thoughts.

I'd really like that SG bass. Nice way to Fender-ize the Gibsons!

Gibsons with maple fingerboards bring forward such a terrible picture for me...I just remember those terrible 70's Gibsons with the maple necks and fingeboards...terrible.

I'm more impressed with these than I have been with almost anything "new" Gibson's put out in the past few years.

(Except for the Jimi Hendrix strat they're making, guffaw.)

This seems like a ploy to just throw something out there. As if they had nothing better to do and at the bottom of the barrel they had this 'negative' idea and said, "whatever, let's give them this."

I like V and Explorers although there's something "toy-like" about all of them.

Love the V and the Explorer, hate the black inlays on the LP and the SG. They look bad over maple. I guess dots would be better too?

That Les Paul would look awesome with no inlays and no pickguard.

Gibson/Epiphone cannot win. If they stick with finishes such as Gold, Cherry Red and Sunburst, they are accused of resting on their laurels. If they try something bold, they are derided.

I happen to like black inlays and binding on a maple fingerboard BUT I would be expecting the find the legend, Fender Jazz Bass up on the headstock.

One thing to be said in favour of the white finish. It is a blank canvas. Owners can personalise their instruments with permanent marker and stickers. Maybe, Gibiphone knows its market better than we realise.

I personally like the maple boards, I thought those maple boarded RD's in the 70's looked pretty sweet. Are they also maple bodied or just the fretboard?

When I checked out the gibson maple studios I really didn't find them a ton heavier compared to a full weight (non chambered) les paul. Let's just keep in mind the a les paul isn't exactly a women's guitar

Not too fond of maple fretboards but I bet lots of people have always though "I always loved Gibson's designs but I'm a maple player". Epi is on the right track, cool concept (name and execution) with decent prices.

I'd like them if the neck and headstock were completely maple, not a huge fan of the dark headstock/light fretboard

I don't really think anyone cares that much. We were asked for opinions and gave them.
I don't really see how a TYRE compares to a guitar. One's all black...wait, it's so ridiculous it's not worth even going into.
