Why all of the Anti-Gibson Hate (Hate of those hating at Gibson)? What is at the root of this? I ackknowledge a lot of pro Gibson stuff - on the rare occasion it happens.

I think the 490/498 set is much maligned. I think pancakes, short tenons, and chambers are all okee dokee. Yada yada. I acknowledge there is certainly price jealousy.

But really - why the unbelievable love of the things they do? Why are you staunchly defending them. Just representing the alternate hypothesis? what is up?

I think his explanation of the glue Gibson is using was entirely justified. People *****ed about it so they changed it and then people *****ed about how they're saying they changed it. He merely attempted to it the whole thing in perspective.

Re the glue: a part of me is actually running a stopwatch wondering how long it will take before until the first malicious post from a screw- and bean-counter comes about current VOS and historic Les Pauls being "inaccurate" because of the glue used....

As dumb as it wounds, this will likely be an everlasting cycle as long as Gibson exists ...

Well, the term comes from one's sainting in the Catholic church. A member or the clergy is chosen to play the "Devil's Advocate" to give a different perspective on the person in the midst of being sainted, so that the outcome isn't completely slanted. Kinda the same reason we have different news outlets, all with different opinions.

What Zerb's doing is instead of joining in on all the fun of kicking Gibson in the teeth, he's simply stating:

While they might have deserved the first punch, the repetitive kicking and hitting is not necessary and completely uncalled for.

Simple as that, he's giving an opposing view to try and even out the thread. Personally, I find it being a much needed breath of fresh air.
