Default Help with a double HB Telecaster please

    Hi guys,
I just converted my single pickup Esquire ('lil 59 in the bridge) to a 2 pickup Telecaster by adding the new "hot rails for tele" neck pickup.

Well besides the lil 59 being much louder than the hot rails (I've adjusted extensively the pickup heights), it just sounds like pure crap.

The box says the pickup delivers a "fat full sound" like that of a humbucker, It sounds like I bought it in the toy section of Sears....

This is the wiring scheme I used

Any suggestions? Anyone ever hear this pickup before? Another wiring scheme perhaps? Defective maybe?

Maybe someone can tell me what kind of readings I should be getting if I test the wires with a meter?

This this is so weak I can't even set enough signal to have my electronic tuner pick it up.

make sure the red and white wires are soldered together and taped off, and that your ground wire is connected properly, and that nothing is being grounded that shouldn't be grounded.
You can run over a Tele with a pickup truck, pick it up - and it'll still play out of tune

    Thanks Mr Turle,
I just rewired with the new pickup re-checking everything....wiring good - pickup crap.

    Wired my old pickup back....beautiful.

I get continuity from the pickup to the ends of the wires, so no broken wiring.

With red & white soldered together, you should read 10.9K across the black & green wires.

    Thanks!
I got my meter back out and tested properly.... the magic "O.L" message.

Tested a bridge rails I have (not Duncan) and got 12.42K

    This thing is a dud.

Seems as though the pickup truly is dead then, I'm sorry for your loss...

    I'm in mourning....

The north magnet is fine, 5.4K, the South is shorted.

What kind of warrantee policy does Duncan have? it's 5 momths old but was just installed yesterday. I hope they are don't give me a hassle.

they're usually pretty good with stuff like this, give 'em a call and I'm sure they'll try and do something for you.
