    Default Favorite Duncan Neck Bucker

I recently sold my SSL-2/SSL-2/SSL-6 set that was in my SX Strat. Although they sounded amazing, they were too limiting for what I wanted to do (high gain). So I've turned it into a H-H Strat. I used 500k pots and then put a trem spaced Custom in the bridge (perfect!) and for the neck.....a JB!

A JB in the neck is the best neck bucker I've used, less bass then a 59 but still warm and smooth. That annoying upper mid hump works wonders in the neck slot making single notes cut thru perfectly. The Custom and JB match pretty well together both clean and distorted.

I had tried a JB in the neck years ago and liked it then. Since I had these pickups laying about I decided to give 'em another shot and I'm very happy I did!!!!

There is nothing better than a SH-1n '59.

It's the neck pickup in my Feitenized Ibanez RG7621. Yes, I fell for the name, but I also knew that Dave Mustaine was using it in his signature models at the time, and I'd heard that the Jazz/JB was Seymour's favorite 'bucker set. It's a different sound from what I expected, but I like it all the same.

While it lacks the character of a '59 or any of the more popular neck humbuckers on a distorted tone, it's super clear and articulate on clean amp settings. It has a sweetness approaching that of an acoustic to me, and when I pick hard it takes on a certain quality that I've been missing in my Epi Custom since I started modding it. It's not a sound that I need often, but when I do, it's just what the doctor ordered.

And, finally, it sounds great with the seventh string (which is a low B).

59 neck pup in my LP when I got it. It read 8.2 ohms. I like more of a vintage sound. The 59 worked well in the neck for that. I ended up moveing to the bridge when I put a t-top(7.4 ohms) in the neck. They match very well. So my favorite Duncan neck pup is the 59. edit ( turns out the 59 is a neck pup)

EDIT Sorry guys. I just checked on the website. The ohms says its a bridge bucker. SH1b. So I dont know what the 59 neck sound like. No use being stupid if I cant prove it.

The Full Shred neck is awesome and it can do almost any style. Even drop tunings don't make it muddy or muffled. Awesome.

Only neck pickups I have used were a PGb, PGn, A2P, and Jazz. I really liked the A2P and the PGn 5 in the neck. The A2P was very warm and smooth. The PGn 5 had more bite to it and then the Jazz just seemed thin to me. I loved the A2P but the PGn 5 worked out better in a live situation for me. It cut more and had more highs.

I just tried a Custom 5 in the neck of my Charvel So Cal, with the screw poles toward the bridge. So far, I like this. No mud, loud and clear, yet still thick and creamy. The bridge is a Custom 5 Trembucker now too.
