Default RIP Mick Cocks - Rose Tattoo

I know most folks here don't know who they are but the Tatts were a huge influence on me. I kind of consider them the Aussie Ramones - they couldn't have been anything else than what they were, they've endured most everything thrown at them with a toughness that proved out the men that they really were, they had an instantly distinct sound that was intelligent far beyond it's simplicity, and the worst part they are all dying much too young. Mick was also in the band Heaven for those that might remember them.

The Tatts walked it like they talked it, no BS, they were a man's man kind of band, straight up Rock N Roll. Unfortunately time and health don't normally treat that with much respect. Cancer has taken a good chunk of the Tatts, not fair I say, not while there are Bee Gees still walking around.

rose tattoo's sound, especially mick cocks' playing, had a lot to do with shaping metal as we know it in my opinion.
with both original gutarists gone now, i doubt they'll be back.
    very sad news.

A sad day indeed. It feels like I've lost a part of my youth.

Sorry to hear about it, brothers down under. I know how it feels when somebody lesser known passes on and it seems like the world doesn't take the proper pause.

    Wow.

First Pete Wells, then he was replaced by Lobby Lloyd, who then died (not too long after the death of his old buddy Billy Thorpe, another Aussie rock legend), now Mick Cox.

Rose Tattoo were one of the genuine Aussie bands from the era when they had to get out into all the working-class suburbs and play the big 'beer barn' pubs and worker's clubs, alongside bands like the Angels, Midnight Oil, The Divinyls and many more (1970s/80s). It was hard work, but it was very real. No glossed-up media hype or industry-manufactured stardom for those bands, they were out there sweating it out on stages all around the country, and not just the cities, either. They were real bands of the people, and much loved because of it.

I remember that when G'n'R were huge.....they openly acnowledged what a huge influence The 'Tatts were to them. Not sure, but i think The Tatts may have even opened some shows for G'n'R, i remember reading that that had been the plan anyway.

As Will says, feels like another chunk of my youth has gone. Chrissie Amphlett (Divinyls) has MS, too, which is very sad, although so far i don't think it's become completely debilitating. Sheesh, it's all going by so very fast, heroes from our youth are dying and suffering.

sad sad news. RIP Mick Cocks.

Pete, Mick, Lobby and Ian Rilen all gone....

They were set to come to the US in the late summer, early fall but cancelled I am sure because of Mick. A re-schedule was tentatively set up for the late spring but now, well I doubt it.
