No, I think you misunderstood my point. I don't think it's a good thing because it is a "stealing from the rich and giving to the poor" sort of deal. I think it's a GREAT thing because the record industry has caused music to become as bad and single-minded as it is. (Was there a single billboard hit this year without Auto-Tune???) The only thing that will bring about any change to this is the record industry as it is completely failing and being rebuilt by the artists, for the artists.

All in all, music is an art, not a business. I never made music to make money. I have recorded albums with my own money (band funds from playing shows) and been on multiple self-sustained tours. I never made any money from it and usually ended up paying out of personal finances in addition to the band funds. None of that ever bothered me. It's about spreading a message for me. And it just so happens the Internet is about the best way mankind has ever invented to spread a message.
