Agreed. It's enough of a challenge just getting people to vote. If I have to vote AND do math, you may lose my vote too. That's just too much work. I think however the rules may currently neglect talent, it makes up for in audience participation.

All you'd have to do is go into each poll, listen, and click 1-10. Math could be handled after the voting.

No head-to-heads. All in for the highest amount of points.
I kind of like this idea. I think it ultimately would bring the strongest, most consistent and creative player to the top (or the one with the most popular appeal).

It would be interesting to try. I don't see a reason to stay married to the current format.

You'd have to average by the total votes
Repeat page views skew the mean toward zero.

    this is not correct
page views are not incorporated into the calculation at all

only the votes that are actually cast would count

I don't understand. Why would page views have anything to do with it?

I was thinking to just simply add them up...5 clicks on the 10 button = 50 points and so on.

right - and in such a way, we could avoid the arbitrariness of how many decimal places to count and significant digits and what not that we'd encounter if we tried to use an 'average' (median? mode? mean? other?)

but it is kinda rude to say that the situation described by others doesn't exist

there is undeniably an unfair element of randomness that could otherwise be controlled out of the process ... it is not present because anyone involved is a bad person or has intentionally done a bad thing ... but it is nonetheless present ... and some consider it a problem

    Just my 2c

I understand that everybody wishes to have the fairest way of getting the best riffs (riffologists) to the top, and therefore become the winner. I see the merit in the points system, however it does entail more work required to set each competition up, and increased work at the end of each poll to add up the results. Even then, you may get a tied result.

My view is that although this is a 'competition', the main role of the Riff Off is to get people playing, and using the constructive critisism to help improve as players. The competition side of it is really just a bit of fun.

It's a shame that a few more people don't pop in, vote and leave their opinions, but I think we can all agree that those taking part are getting a great deal out of the experience.

Finally, a thanks to Keith and all of his efforts in running the competition, and to all the participants for all of their excellent endeavors.

I say leave it like it is --- it has flaws, but gosh darn it, they're OUR flaws!

I'm proud of our riff offs, and all those that run / participate / vote! Go SDUGF!
