I had a chance to try one yesterday and it fits me like a glove. That said there is no way in hell I can spend that amount on a guitar, nor would I. Are there any other under 1k guitars with that neck profile?
Gibson switches back and forth between the 50's and 60's profiles on their other SGs. Right now the SG Std has a 50's profile but just a year or two ago they had the 60's profile which is what you played on the 61RI. Lots of their guitars have the 60's profile though so it shouldn't be too much of a challenge to find one that fits your budget.
I completely agree about the 60's profile, I haven't found a neck better suited to my hands.
The Epi G-400 has the same neck shape and feel.

i too think youll like the epi versions of the sg, nice fast neck. not quite the same as the '61 but i havent really played many other gibsons that have that feel and ive played plenty of gibson working in music stores for years

it could be the neck joint or ? but the 60's lp necks dont feel the same to me as the '61 ri sg necks.
