The Dimarzio SDS-1 sounds like a P-90 and Rio Grande makes a strat sized P-90.

I've never tried them, but this guy makes a P90 Strat set:

Excellent pickup! That's the one I've used and it gets a great tone. Adjustable polepieces too.

The problem with all those one-man-businesses is that most of them is in the USA and I would prefer to buy my pickups inside Europe (Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Norway or United Kingdom)

The QP does not sound like a P90, its response is different. The QP is just a loud, hard, full frequency single coil.

Can I get a good quack out of it? I'd like an adjustable pole piece single coil that would be good in the middle position of an HSH Strat.

I'm not a P-90 expert, but I love the QP. Definitely get the tapped version. The full coil is loud and fat, sometimes to the point of getting buried in a band mix. The tap is brighter, and has a good sinlge-coil sound of it own. Not authentic vintage-Fender, but a good sound nonetheless.

With a spin-a-split pot, you can get an infinite number of shades in between.

I did a head to head w/an old P90, and it was quite similar. I love my SP43!
