    Default JB too bright?

I've heard of some complaint that the JB is too bright with a 500K pot, and to try a 250 k pot.

My question- can a resistor be placed on the volume pot to bring a 500k down to 250 k? I'd like to wire it to a switch- if so, where on the pot would it got and what value resistor do I need?

you would need a 500k resistor

Attach one end of the resistor to ground. Attach the other end to one terminal of your off/on switch.

Attach the other terminal of the switch to the pickup lead where it solders onto the volume pot or selector switch.

Personally, I wouldn't do this. But if someone asked me to do it to their guitar I'd suggest doing it with a 500K push/pull volume pot and not drill a hole in the guitar to install a new switch.

I can't tell you if this will give you what you think you want though - or how it will affect the taper of your 500K volume pot.

You must have really good ears. The JB is one of the few pickups I'll wire with a 500K pot only.

From your post you haven't even tried the JB with a 500K pot.

    Try it first.

    +1 for lew's reply

Personally I love a 500k w/ JB ... if all else fails just dont change your strings .... the sound will soon change from bright to dull

The JB has a huge mid spike apparently. It's sort of like a V30 Celestion speaker. It varies with rigs though. Get a 500k and try it first. The resistor is next to free anyways so give it a shot both ways.
