    For the record, knocking out the poles with a hammer on ANY single coil where the coil is wound around the magnets tehmselves (so just about any single coil worth more than 5$) is the best way to permanently damage the pickup.

    The only pickups this is really safe to do on are the REALLY cheap far east imports that use a solid plastic bobin and not 2 separate plates held together by the poles.

    Years ago I ruined a perfectly good Fender Fat 50 trying to adjust the pole peice heights....LOL....Live and learn!
