Default Base Plate Influence in tone ...

    Hi all ,

long time Duncan player here and fan of the forum and its ongoing work

I was wondering what is the influence of the baseplate in a Humbucker .

I've seen some different materials and was wondering about tone .

Lets talk about the different materials and how they can effect sound .

Dimarzio's have brass baseplates and that may give them some of their midrange warmth? I have made brass baseplates for single coils and they round off highs, beef up mids and round off bass response.

Yeah they matter and like idsnowdog said Dimarzio uses them a lot and I use Dimarzios and I like the warmth they give. They tend to be rounder and more muscular sounding which I guess makes sense since Tele leads use brass baseplates on the bottom. Maybe this is why Dimarzios tend to sound twangier than most pickups? I don't know but I like it.

I have wanted to experiment with other metals like steel, copper and aluminum but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
