I haven't seen either of them, and my money is on Tarantino.

See Inglourious Basterds, it's not even close. I just saw District 9 last night, the beginning had a lot of potential but it was kind of F'ed up. I guess I like my fiction with a twisted historical sense rather than a sci-fi twist.

I saw Disctrict 9 on BluRay, and I will say it was gorgeous.

District 9 was, IMO, the best movie to come out in 2009, by far.

Inglorious is probably in my top 10 movies of all time...
District 9 was pretty cheezy imho...didn't care for it at all!

I've seen Inglorious basterds, and about half of district 9...Inglorious Basterds is definitely the better of the two.
I chose District 9 mostly because my son wanted to watch it. Pretty good flick. I'll check out IB another night this week.

I haven't seen either, so I'm going with the real Nazi's and not the allegory Nazi's.

One of the things I liked the most about District 9 was the fact that it was totally unlike any alien movie I've ever seen. The filmmakers definitely took a leap of faith showing you the aliens within the first couple of minutes of the film. Instead of this weird, creepy, scary entity that you fear just because you don't know what it is, you instantly get this idea of, "Oh, that's what they are. That's what they do. That's how they live."
Then you realize that all those generalizations you just made are false. It's really well done, and I think it's more the story of the main character's moral dilemma more than anything else. There are some aspects of the film I haven't figured out yet, and probably more that I don't know I haven't figured out. (Cat food? Huh?)
I haven't seen Inglorious Basterds yet, but it's on my short list.

I wasnt a big fan of District 9. I thought it was over rated. Inglorious bastards is IMO the better movie. Has a few slow parts and alot of subtitles but when it gets going its awesome. Thats why I voted IG

I saw both and liked both. Inglorious Bastards was better-than-average Tarrantino. I'd put it up there with Kill Bill. Not nearly as good as his first two films, but way better than Grindhouse/Death Proof. I loved the Brad Pitt character. Typically over the top. Lots of blood. Lots of black humor.
But I voted for District 9. It was a movie that really made me think. It's been months since I saw it in the theaters and I've thought about it a lot. In fact, just last night I was thinking about how they called the aliens "prawns," and how casual name-calling is the first step down the slippery slope. Plus, it was very visually appealing. But mostly, it was a script that makes you think...

I agree with Evan that both are worthy films. You could pick apart any movie, and IMO, far too many do. I like to enjoy films for what they have to offer, and not be as critical with them as I am with music.
District 9 could have used better actors, just like Avatar, but overall they were thought provoking and cool to see.
Inglourious Basterds....I joke with my Jewish boss that it's a Jewish daydream. That's how you've got to see it. It's simply the rewriting of the Nazi story in a dramatic and interesting way to fantasize it, as if it were a weird dream. That's what Tarantino is good at - he gave us a woman with a machine gun leg in another movie for chrissakes! What did you expect? Funny that it's about the 3rd or fourth movie with Pitt's fake southern accent too! lol

Brad Pitt's character was brilliant!![]()
