    Default EMG EQ Ratings

I find it annoying that there don't seem to be any standard EQ ratings for EMG pickups. Seymour Duncan and Dimarzio give you a treble/mid/bass rating for each pickup, it would be helpful to have these ratings for EMG as well. If they don't exist, anyone care to take a stab at it?
    For example: EMG81 T9/M3/B/5, EMG85 T7/M6/B8, EMG 60?
    Frankencaster: SM-3n Seymourized Mini, Norton
    Schecter C1+: 59n, Custom UOA5, Triple Shots
    Cruise Strat: EMG 58
    Peavey XXX 40efx head
    Blackstar HT-5Rh
Genz-Benz Tribal 2x12 cab w/ Eminence Private Jacks
Crybaby, Earthquaker Tone Reaper, MXR Classic OD, Boss SD-1 stacked mod, Hardwire Tuner, Ditto Delay, Hardwire RV-5, BBE Supa Charger

IMO, these stats are only useful as a general comparison guide. The subtle differences between the timbers in individual guitars will make a major difference to the theoretical ratings for all pickups.

Actually, wouldn't the EQ ratings for the pickups help you determine which pickup would sound best for the type of wood that your guitar is made out of?

    Not really.

Treble, middle, bass is only three subdivisions. Kinda lo-res, doncha think? Seven would be nearer the mark.

The only way in which I have ever found these numbers helpful is after having tried one model of pickup in a guitar and found it disappointing. Imagine, for example, that you have tried an SSL-1 Stratocaster replacement and found it too trebley in one particular guitar. The solutions are EITHER to get a less trebley PU for that guitar OR to fit the SSL-1 in a guitar that could do with an improved treble response.

So you wouldn't even look at the EQ numbers if you were buying pickups for an all Maple neck through?

a "3 band eq" rating for the pickups is usually good enough to get you in the ballpark.

Not without also knowing what strings, pedals and amplification are to be factored into the equation.

    In my expirience

    81 - B5 M6 T8

    85 - B7 M9 T6

    60 - B4 M3 T8

Arguments about usefulness of EQ aside, I think those numbers are at least close.
81 is balanced with a treble spike, 85 has a huge midrange and somewhat shaved high end and the 60 is clear and bright

Nice, I think those numbers are much better. I think EMG should get on this, all they have to do is look at the duncan forum compared to their own and realize how much we like to post and obsess over details like eq curves. The more info they provide the more discussion there will be about their pickups.

No, No, No, they only LOOK flat because there ss no pole screws to adjust.

The surface of the EMG gives you the illusion that they are flatt
You "see" flatt, then you "think" flatt.
    Sterile/Dull is not flatt.

Stick to BlackOuts is what i say !

That makes me wonder, has anyone seen the inside of an emg? Are there screws like a covered duncan? A bill lawrence style rail? just curious.
