    Default Full shred mahogony

I was wondering peoples' opinions for an mahogony body and neck with ebony fretboard and a fixed bridge seven string. I'm looking at the full shred or the invader in the bridge. I'm looking for something that gets great pinch harmonics and gets an mike amott distorted tone.

the full shred would do the trick and would be tighter than a stock invader; but unless you specifically want an alnico sound for leads you may prefer a ceramic magnet for metal rhythm tones. an invader with hex screws from a super distortion (same size screw and thread without the big heads) is the best i've tried with the same woods and bridge set-up, but i never got around to putting a ceramic mag in a full shred yet either.
unless you really want to mess around, i'd get the full shred

No I dont want to go that crazy. The Full Shred wasn't available when I ordered this guitar. Now it is and it sounds better in a mahogony guitar.

The best way I can compare both pickups is this...

The Invader is a bazooka. The Full Shred is a sniper rifle.

FS + Mahogany = Opeth. Can be as warm and rich as you like, or as cold and precise as you like, yet always filled with singing tone; and as responsive as you could ever wish. Since the heavier strings are the best all in this equation, I'd imagine that a 7th string would be to die for!

Thanks for all the input. I requested the switch and was told it would be no problem. I've heardalotof good things about the full shred. Hopefully, this guitar will be done by may.

is it true the that full shred is just a modified JB? ive read that in these forums once, but either way this pickup still intrigues me as well. its like it could be the JBs bigger modified super brother (with less fat). and without that mid spike and yet it still retains aggression is awesome to my senses

    Thanks!

I didn't play on that album but as far as I know, at least half the rhythms were:

Schecter 006 Elite (Mahogany/Maple body, Mahogany/Rosewood neck) with a Full Shred bridge into a Rocktron Prophesy, Peavey solid state Power amp, into a Mesa 4x12 Cab (Celestion V30s and also with insulation stuffed inside to dampen some weird ringing)

The other guitar, I'm not sure, could've been an LTD Eclipse with EMG HZs, or a Jackson Dinky with a JB, through the same amp/cab setup.

Full Shred is 14.6K. If it's 44AWG, it's rather underwound. Looks more like a Custom 5 (43AWG) with short hex screws in both coils, only wound a tad hotter.

JB's bigger modified sibling is the Invader. Same coil, maybe wound a bit hotter, only with heavy huge screws in both coils and a thick ceramic magnet with boosters.

I remember Frank Falbo saying the Full Shred wind is actually very close to the Custom series wind, so the only real difference is the polepieces (and they do make quite a big difference)

I have a Pearly Gates in my Mahogany Strat and it sounds really nice. The extra high end sizzle is nice

The guitar is a seven string. I don't think they make the Pearly gates in a 7 version. I would try one in the neck otherwise.
