What head/earphones do you use?

Well since I became a bit of a MP3 player geek, I upgraded a few parts of my rig over the past months.

My everyday rig is a Sony A729 with Sennheiser CX500s. Everything was dirt cheap even though it's a premium player (got it on clearance for 70 pounds instead of 200 pounds!). 16GB of pure tonal goodness, the combo sounds great.

In a seperate backup box I have a Sansa Clip + with additional 4GB Micro SD for a total of 8GB of storage, along with some Klipsch S4s. The S4s sound a bit better than the 500s (clearer, more natural while the 500s have a bit of a forceful bass) but they fit me less well so it's back to the Sennheisers for everyday use.

I also have a spare Sansa Clip (8GB).

For my full size headphones I use a pair of Sennheisers HD202s which are HORRIBLE and some Koss Pro3AA which are actually pretty good and clear, but with a bit of a mid slump.

My dream portables right now are either Sennheisers HD25-II or AKG K181 or K518 (probably the ones I'll go for).
My dream full sizes are some Audio Technica AT-MH50s. They're easily driven so I could even use them with my players and they're great for monitoring.

ipod classic and shure se210s..

the se210's i'd definitely buy again - they've easily outlasted two pairs of £30 headphones.. sound quality is awesome, outside noise is cut right down. i carry these just to use as earplugs when i'm trying to concentrate!

I have a 4G iPod with Denon ACH551K in-ear headphones. I'd definitely consider them again, they've been really good. I also ended up buying a pair of Klipsch Image S4 in-ear headphones at the Chicago airport when I realized I had forgotten my other pair and was about to fly to Dublin. I'd recommend them as well.

Sony MDR7506s . . . they've lasted me about 10 years of regular use (although they're getting a bit beat up). Great sound, and they used to keep my ears warm when I was walking home from class at university. I will use any pair of cheapo ear buds when jogging . . .

The AKGs are so much more comfortable than the Sennheiser HD280s I originally bought!

I use the HD280's as well for serious music listening. But if I'm just going to the gym, I think I've got an old pair of Sony over the ear type of earbuds. I like them for what they do. I'd just look dumb in the gym with my HD280's or I'd use them

I heavily recommend against the HD280's for anything but recording or watching movies. The isolation is great and the sound is very clear, but there is a HUGE lack of low end and a relatively hyped top end on them.

I use HD212's for 90% of what I do, including recording/editing. CX300's get used as in-ears, and my PX-100's are great in the right environment (open back; not much as far as isolation and there's some outward bleed).

All Sennheiser, btw.

Subanots, I have those same Bose phones. They sound great. The wiring is a bit delicate for my tastes, so they get babied, not used as much as they should.

Bose = crap. All of their products are overhyped and overpriced.

I agree that the HD280s are good. I recently bought a pair of Shure SRH440s and they are very nice.....maybe better than the HD280s and were a little cheaper.

I'm a Sennheiser lifer. I owned those for two years or so. I agree, incredibly uncomfortable, and the sound isn't as good as the hype would lead you to believe. I'm very glad I upgraded from those, especially because the headband started cracking after a months use. By the end they were held together with black duct tape, epoxy glue, and wired up with speaker wire. I think I threw them in the trash when I moved.

For home listening: Sennheiser HD 600 with PPA v1 amp.

Portable: Koss KSC-75 re-cabled with Mogami mini star quad.

Recording/Tracking: AKG K271 mkII re-cabled with Canare mini star quad.

Sony MDR-D333 with a nice Ipod

I really regret getting these for almost 100$
- They need something on the plastic that goes on your head, it's really not that confortable.
- The sound is pretty great I have to admit, but a bit more bass wouldn't have killed.
- They don't really look cool on a head.
- I HAVE TO BASH THEM SO THE RIGHT EAR WORKS! (And I've only been using it a home with my guitar and few times on the way to school (6 or 7 months of use)
- The retractable cable is a good idea, but damn it kills your ear when you shake it... You hear the cable moving into the plastic ear cover. Really annoying. Plus, the button to retract the cable is Very sensitive and puts the cable under tension often.

The only points I really like are the fact that it is compact and the ear foaming being quite confortable and isolating.

DT770??? Niiiice... I tried the 440 ones and loved them. Never tried the 770 but they look pimping and I hear great things.
