    Default Weird guitar problem

Set neck, 25.5" scale, pointy flying V design, TOM bridge

The action is average height, feels good. However, I get a lot of fret buzz - but only from the A string.

On a Tune O Matic bridge guitar, how can just the A string have buzz issues? Seems strange... at first, I thought that the nut slot might be too deep, but honestly the string sits in the A slot just as the other strings do in their respective slots.

What gives? Anyone know how to tweak this problem away?

    how high is the pickup?

look down the fretboard from the neck end
do you see any high frets?

    look at your nut
is the A setting further in?

Is there something wrong with the saddle or notch on the bridge, where the A string is sitting? Is it too low, or is the string buzzing against the saddle somehow?

Well if it's only one string that buzzes, there are
only two points we can look at, the nut or the
saddle. Raise your saddle and adjust length for
correct intonation. Try a thicker string just for
sh1ts & giggles, this may tell you if it's your nut slot.
    Good luck.

    Peace,

    Darrin

What type of TOM is it? I had a similar problem on my Epi LP and it turned out to be the screw that adjusts the saddle. It was a bit loose and would vibrate.

Not that I can see. I did the check where you fret at the 4rd fret and then tap the string over the 1st fret to check the nut slot depth and, honestly, if the nut slot were any more shallow, I'd probably have intonation problems.

My neck is almost perfectly straight. I wonder if turning the trussrod to put a slight bow in it would help - but if that were the case, wouldn't all the strings buzz????

    Hmmm... I'll definitely check that!

Problem with one string in particular, have you changed the string yet? What strings are you using?

Is the buzz only on the lower frets, upper frets, all across the board?

Strings are new, EB 9-46. The buzz is mostly on the lower frets. The A sting is the biggest problem. The other strings buzz a touch, but nothing I cant live with.

So has the problem been around for a while, through various string changes, or has it just come up recently, and if so have you changed the string?

Bad strings happen, all the time. May or may not be the problem, but is certainly one of the usual suspects.

If the buzzing is mostly on the lower frets and the neck is at or near dead straight, you should consider adding at least a smidge of relief. If the problem is string isolated though, change that string with a new one.

    Sounds good... I'll try that.

I just got the guitar a week ago and had new strings put on it. I have another set - this time D'Addario instead of EB. We'll see what happens
