Default SSL-1 & APS-1 Alnico II Pro Mix

    Hi all,

What are some thought on SSl-1 Middle p/u with a APS-1 in Bridge position?

Good quack? Good Bridge p/u alone?

    Thanks in advance.

I get excellent qvack from the Albert Lee set in my MIJ 62RI strat. That set is all alnico II with a big steel baseplate at the bridge. Adding an alnico V single in the mid can only improve the quack-i-ness of the notch position.
    Ain't nothin' but a G thang, baby.

The nearest that I have to SSL-1s is a set of Fender Custom '54s. Nice and sprangy. Plenty of cluck. I have APS-1s in a Squier JV Strat. These sound smoother and do not suffer from excessive glassiness. My favourite single coil PUs are the SD Five-Twos. Smooth on the plains, twangy on the wounds.

Thanks for the replies guys. Guess I'll have to buy one and check it out. I currently have a Dimarzio HS-2 in the bridge. Good sounding, yes but not good for getting that in-between with the SSL-1 in the Middle.

    Take care.
