Default Help! New pickups for doubleneck SG?

I've got an epiphone G-1275 doubleneck. After a few recommendations, I've had the six string pickups replaced and now the guitar sounds a *lot* better.

The 12-string side sounds like muddy poo

So I've been researching what pickups would go well for the 12-string end... any suggestions?
I've found a few possibilities but I won't put them here yet b/c I don't want to put words in your mouth...
I don't play much softer stuff on my other guitars - they're mainly full-on metal. I'm unfamiliar with exactly what type of tone I should be aiming for, I'm chasing the type of tone you would expect this type of guitar to make.

Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!

what did you stick in the 6 string half? in what ways did the tone improve?

are you looking to get the same kind of tonal gain for the 12 string half, or do you want something different?

what kind of music do you want to play with this guitar?

what kind of amp do you play though?

this info would really help us help you!

Whoa... I didn't expect a reply that quick!

I'm not too good with knowing how to describe tones / changes, but I can tell what sounds better than something else (even if I don't know how). This explanation probably isn't going to very good...

I don't know which pickups were put in the 6 string neck, the bloke in the repair shop had talked them up a lot, and the stock standard ones in the guitar were crappy. It was just an overall improvement I guess...

I've got an Ashton 100W single 12" speaker amp, and a digitech effects pedal.

The music I'd be trying to play with the guitar is the usual doubleneck stuff - LZ, etc, and also a bit of guns'n'roses.
Also, I'd like to play acoustic guitar songs clean thru the 12-string neck, just for something different.
I would like to be able to play the chords thru the verse / chorus etc with the 12-string neck, then be able to switch necks for a solo or clean single string picking.

I'm very unfamiliar with the sound that playing this type of guitar should make. As mentioned before, the majority of the music I play is metal. That's why I thought I'd ask what is recommended by people who are more familiar with 12-string / doubleneck music...

I've got an Epi doubleneck as well and I'll tell you what I did. First off I dumped the tuners and added higher end Kluson repros. BIG BIG help. Went with tone pros bridges. Another help. Guitar is much more consistent and certainly louder. Pickups were a problem. There's a lot of wood on a doubleneck and they do tend to be on the muddy side naturally. I would say that anything with an A5 in it. I went with 59's in both bridges and the Jazz in both necks. You COULD go with a quartet of 59's as well. One other thought is to go with the Jazz set (Jazz bridge, Jazz neck) in the 12 neck only. Hope this helps.

    Thanks JBG!
I'd love to bin the tuning pegs - snot green! What was epiphone thinking!?!?

I was thinking of the P-Rails SHPR-1 combo in both bridge and neck - do you think that would achieve a good sound?
I think I should go with either the P-rails set, or a Jazz in the neck and 59 in the bridge.

Snot green, lousy quality, tons of slippage....dump the tuners if you get the chance. I would go vintage to be honest. Jazz/59 combo, I think. Just make sure you go with an A5 magnet pickup. It offsets some of the murkiness. Pleasure to be of assistance. Anything else let me know.

If you go for P-Rails, you might want to consider these: http://www.seymourduncan.com/product...iple_shot_swi/

They were made for each other.

I've been really busy (/lazy) this last year, the doubleneck pickups upgrade for the 12-string part had fallen a few notches down the priority list. BUT now I've got myself organised and got a few $$ to get some pickups.

Since I last asked for advice over a year ago, maybe a better set of pickups are available, maybe there is some new members who have some good ideas...which is why I thought I'd ask the friendly people here again

Anyway - Does anyone have any more advice on the specific pickups etc that I can upgrade the 12-string part of my epiphone doubleneck to?

yeah, for what you described, i think a 59 in the bridge and a jazz or 59 in the neck depending on if you want a touch more clarity or a touch more warmth, respectively

You could try Pearly Gates too.
