    Default Product disposal guidelines

    Has anyone seen this?

    http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/product_disposa/

How do you dispose of your unwanted pickups…

    1.) If it's a cheap OEM pickup that's dead?

    2.) If it's a nice, name-brand pickup that's dead?

3.) If it's a cheap OEM pickup you just don't like?

    4.) If it's a nice, name-brand pickup you just don't like?

    Not seen that before. Short answers are;
    1) To an eccentric guy about thirty miles away who builds experimental pickups.
    2) Cannibalise for spare parts.
    3) e-Bay ("ideal for project")
    4) Try to barter/exchange for another PU of equivalent quality.

    Unvarnished truth?

    1.) If it's a cheap OEM pickup that's dead?

    2.) If it's a nice, name-brand pickup that's dead?
I haven't encountered this yet, though I once accidentally killed the lower coil of an HS-3. I put it in the middle position of an H-S-H Ibanez where it functioned as a pretty good single-coil. I suppose if one of my beloved Duncans died out of warranty, I would probably pay to get it re-wound.

3.) If it's a cheap OEM pickup you just don't like?

4.) If it's a nice, name-brand pickup you just don't like? I had a Duncan Distortion once that wasn't really my thing; it came in a Jackson SL3 that I bought (used?) at a store. I sold the DD to a guy at the store, the same day I ordered a new JB so I could restore the guitar to spec.

I've never once thrown out a pickup, I still got'em all. Even a mostly disassembled Yamaha humbucker that everything else in my parts box keeps sticking to. I'll get around to selling them all someday, I guess. I probably wouldn't throw something out. Even if it's ****ty, someone somewhere will want it for some reason.

Me neither. I sell 'em or keep 'em. I have some really nice pickups that I need to buy guitars for.
