Question Is this a good trade?

Guy on CL messaged me with the following message:

Would you consider a trade for a Alesis HD24..in perfect condition with 3 caddies and a Small remote (LRC)...Excellent resale value...
This is on response to my EBMM Axis Super Sport I have for sale in the trading post.

I'm not heavy into recording gear but I do know basically what this unit is. They seem to go on eBay for a grand pretty regularly. Plus this would be a lot easier to ship than a guitar. How would I test it, though?

    Opinions?

The obvious test is to make recordings on every track. The stiffer test is how well those removable HDDs hold up to studio work load levels of punishment. This aspect can only be tested in the medium to long term.

The other nagging doubt is that the Alesis is 24-bit. Most current computerised recording is now minimum 32-bit. The Alesis HD-24 could be as "obsolete" as my Roland R-Bus V-Studio stuff.

Are you an ebay member? try to check this out:http://completed.shop.ebay.com/i.htm...&_stpos=&gbr=1

They go for like 700-1,200 from what I say.

What were you looking for though? Don't settle because this seems like a good trade, you might regret it.

You mean what was I looking for $$ wise for the guitar? A grand, minimum. I have it listed for $1100 shipped and insured on here.

The only thing I'd be open to trades on would be a good tube head, like a JMP or certain Mesas. But like I said I don't know this Alesis peice well so I'm investigating it.

if its me, i dont do the trade for recording gear

if i was in the market for recording gear, i'd be planning for that .... if i were in the market to sell a guitar, i'd be pursuing that ...

unless you had that gear in mind with your proceeds from the sale, i'd vote pass

and until you put that recording gear through very thorough paces, no way i'd part with the guitar - recording gear can be fussy

    good luck

Rarely would i trade for recording gear, since it's so hard to figure out if it works or not. If you're in the market for it, that's another matter, and an evil that would then be necessary. You don't HAVE to trade for recording gear, so i wouldn't.
    Excellent points as well.

As good as many 10 yr old recording mediums are, they're dead on the market, which is why he's trying to trade it off.

In the real world ADATs were good....and if you've got all the peripheral gear like an analog or digital board, they're worthy pieces.

The problem is it's dead gear on the open market.

I've got a nice recording studio, but I couldn't give it away. And it's even more current than ADATs. So I'm keeping it to use, because I'd lose my azz if I tried to sell a Mackie HDR 24/96, which is a killer piece of gear....just worth 1/4 of what it once was.

Personally, I'd sell the guitar for cash, then use the money to buy a computer based recording setup.....2009 +

I've used the Alesis HD24, I gotta say, they are good units.

Everything said before this is true however. If you're not looking for recording gear, don't get it.

It was the peak of technology at the time, but there is SO much better stuff out there for cheaper for recording now anyways.

Think about it, if you trade for that, you're gonna have to get a mixer to use it with, reference monitors, microphones, all the cables, to have an outdated studio.
