Internet on the phone has been around for a long time now. And i remember when my friends purchased new phones and demonstrated to me with great smiles that the thing could load internet pages... even though the display was tiny and the pages took a long time to load.
So i didn't buy it. I understood that i could check my e-mails, facebook, watch videos, download music, etc... but those phones didn't ENABLE me to do it in a way i found functional. So i stuck with an old school phone whilst these guys were upgrading every 6 months to phones with only slightly better capabilities.
But now, you have phones that really do enable you to use the internet in a way that is fun, practical, easy and fast. My brother bought a HTC phone with android and i tried it out, i loved it. Finally, a phone where i could use the internet just as easily as i can on a laptop or PC computer, with a large screen and good user interface.
So a few days ago, i bought a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. I chose that particular phone because my previous phone was a Sony Ericsson and i like the camera.... the camera is 8.1 megapixels and has a great lense. It didn't cost me any extra per month than my current plan, it was a straight upgrade.
I love the phone, i can see myself having less need to sit at my PC when i get home from work because i'd have been able to easily sort out all my business whilst on break at work or on the move.
Not to mention, i can be a lot more 'plugged in'. I've got apps that instantly tell me the latest news headlines, weather, facebook, whatever i want to know.
Previous internet phones could not do this, my previous phone (Sony Ericsson K850i) could not do this. So i used that phones as a 'Call/Text/Camera' device. I think people will find that they will begin to use things as they become easier to use.
Who needed e-mail 20 years ago?
Who needed internet banking 20 years ago?
Nobody NEEDS as internet phone or any of the things it does, but they make life easier. The bandwagon has been running long enough now for me to think of it as 'the future' and so i'm jumping on board.
