I don't mean to disparage this new pickup, but aside from single conductor wiring and the long legs, I don't see how this is any different from a production Alnico 2. Duncan has always made great pickups with great quality control, so what's the big deal if they're able to duplicate the same pickup they made in 1986, when for years they've maintained they've always made the pickup to the same specs?
It's not like Bill Lawrence where the design and magnets have changed over the years.
Luckily Duncan hasn't increased the price on these new Slash pickups so they're more expensive than a regular set of Alnico 2's.
Regardless I have a 1986 Les Paul that I plan on buying a set of these for.
I plan on getting a pair- just because Slash and Jimmy Page made me want to play guitar and get a Les Paul- and many years ago (1992) I refinished my 1986 Les Paul Custom to look like his Derrig Les Paul. Considering I have the same JCM800 he used in the Ritz performance, it should sound awesome, though I've been getting nice Slash tones with Livewire 2's
Anyone know where I can get one of those old catalogs in the vid? I had one as a teenager and I practically memorized it. I would love to have another.
i just wanna say that late 80's Les Pauls with Alnico 2 magnets in their humbuckers sound ****ing awesome.
My 87 Custom with antiquities in it gets some of the best damn Les Paul tones i've ever heard...i mean my friend's 58 has more mojo and complexity to it but it's 30 years older. With that in mind, my guitar is perfect.
I think the quality of these instruments, the prices they're selling for right now, and the fact that Slash is the new Page and the late 80's are the new early 60's, will send their value thru the roof in the next several years. Remember that Pagey's Paul was about 20 years old when he was doing most of his work on it...I'm convinced that's about the time Pauls start gettin reeeeaaally gooooodddd

what i want to know is if i can get the new Slash APH-1 in blue and pink like that '86? if so i'm IN!! are shop floor customs of the Slash in other colors able to be ordered or is it just black and zebra?
Very cool and interesting Evan!
