Default 2010 1957 Les Paul Gold Top Historic advice

    Hi everyone

I've just got a new 1957 Gold top reissue which Im really pleased with. Its pretty light and the bridge Burstbucker 2 sounds great but its is a bit bright. Do you think an Alnico 11 pro will round the tone off but still give me the Kossoff vibe that I'm after. I'm worried that a 59 may add more top end, but on the other hand being an Alnico 5 magnet may also do the job. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also any other suggestions would be great, bearing in mind that an old school Les Paul tone is what I'm after.
    Thanks

The APH1 doesn't only remove some highs, it also removes a lot of bass and lowest mids. With certain amounts of overdrive the APH1 in the bridge can come out quite sharp. I don't think it would work great for a guitar that might be too bright naturally. Just compare Slash's sound to other LP sounds, it can take your head off.

I think a Pearly Gator in the bridge might be more suitable.

'59 in the bridge might also work. Lower push than PG and more highs.

Thanks for that Mojo, I did think a Pearly might make things worse, but with the extra drive and midrange, it could be an option

Changing the p'up magnet to an AlNiCo 8 will set things in prospective for ya. It'll turn that bright sucker into a warm, smooth operator!

Forget all this magnet swaping garbage...

I have a 2005 58 reissue and quite liked the BB's but found the bridge to be a little thin from time to time and ofund the neck to be a little murkey...not really muddy but on it's way to muddy...

I dropped in a set of Antiquities...everything I liked about t6he BB's plus everything fixed that I didn't like about them!

You can do Kossoff all day with them!

Trust me...you have a fantastic guitar take it up another notch or 2 and gte the Ants!

they are not but if you find you have problems with microphonics they can always be potted later
