Default Is This A Good Combo In Your Opinion?

I have a Les Paul copy, and I'd like to have a SH-2 Jazz Model in the Neck and a Dimebucker in the bridge.

I play mostly metal, progressive and alternative stuff, so I wanted the really nice distortion sound from the bridge and a clean sound from the neck.

So do you think that's a good combination to achieve that sound?

From what i hear the 59 is the best pairing with the Dimebucker. thats what Dimebag used. I have a 59N but with a Invader bridge, by far my fav neck pickup. But I don't think you'll go wrong with the jazz. Both will give you a nice clean sound.

    Welcome to the forum.

The Jazz, 59n, and PGn all get on well with the Dime. Which one to choose depends on the voicing you're going for from the neck spot of your LP.

The JazzN does not have the personality and life that a good PAF neck HB has; I think it's pretty bland & boring. It really doesn't belong in the 'hot rodded set'. You're better off with a '59, PG, APH or other good PAF.

I'm with Blueman, just not a huge fan of the Jazz. Although if you plan to shred a lot with the neck pup, it may not be a bad option nor would the Full Shred neck. For me, the neck pup is used for cleans either by itself or in the middle position, and slower bluesier work. I rarely shred with it, and so I gravitate more towards the pups Blueman mentioned as well.

UnholyDaemon, I had a similar idea as you a year back, get a jazz in the neck for clean and a duncan distortion in the bridge for metal. I ended up changing them out for a more versatile set of 59/custom5, and I mainly play metal. The jazz is fantastic clean, but I like the 59 even better especially in a les paul style guitar. If you want to keep it modern sounding and even do some neck shredding the jazz would be good, if you want more of a vintage sound with deep bass and bright highs the 59 is for you. As for the dimebucker, well I sure didn't like the distortion (also a super high output screamer) I think that moderate output bridge humbuckers sound much better for metal in my experience. In your guitar I would go with a Custom SH-5 for the bridge.

PGn and Duncan Custom. Measure the string spacing, find out if you need the SH-5 or TB-5.

I agree to blueman. I would recommend the Alnico Pro II for the neck. Much more juice and character for Rock and Metal stuff. The Jazz is really tame.

I have a Mockingbird with a BL XL500 in the bridge with a Jazz and I like it, it's a little more noodley than boomy.
