Default Favorite neck pickup between these two...

I've got a Jackson KE2 that came with a JB and Jazz. I replaced the Jazz with a Full Shred neck. I used the Jazz for years as my neck pickup in all my guitars, but recently thought I'd branch out and try something different. A friend of mine swears by them, says it's his favorite neck pickup. I like it so far, but we haven't been practicing enough for me to really work with it (band members on vacation, etc.). I'm also thinking about replacing the JB with a Distortion, but that's another thread, lol. I play mostly clean stuff on the neck pickup, and some solos. What do you guys think about the Jazz and the Full Shred? Do you have a preference? Just curious. Thanks in advance for all replies.

If you use the neck mostly for cleans and some solos, it probably won't matter much either way. The real thing you need to worry about is tending to those burns. The KE2 is a scorcher!

I just got a WR-1 with a Full Shred in the neck. I like it so far, haven't done much clean with it, though.

I had a FS years ago and didn't care for it as a bridge pickup, but that was when I was young and dumb and expected the Full Shred to be like a Distortion Extra.

However, I will say the JB in the neck is a good pickup, and with a TripleShot for Parallel operation does really nice cleans.

For the bridge I'd say Custom.

If you like the Jazz, but want something warmer that is great for cleans and still smokes for solo's, get the APH II. IIRC, it's the same pickup as the Jazz, but with an A2 mag. At any rate, it's my fave all time neck pickup.

The full shred neck is awesome. Been trying it out with several different volume knob levels and tone knob twists......it's versatile and sounds incredible. I am also a fan of the jazz neck (which I have in another guitar that's the same exact model (see sig) and although I'm a big fan of the Jazzn for certain styles, the FSn is my current favorite.

+1 ....If I had to choose between the two though, Full Shred Neck.

If I'm not mistaken the Full Shred Neck is a Jazz Neck with hex poles. Same wind, coils, and both are A5. I like the tonality better with the Full Shred Neck.... the hex poles give it a slightly different vibe but in a good way IMO

I dont think the Jazz and APHn are the same pickup with different mags. I slapped an alnico II mag out of a PG into a Jazz neck I had. Played back to back against the APHn in the same guitar, the Jazz seemed to be rounder in the highs and a bit looser in the lows. I think it's a darker wind in the Jazz. Never tried an APHn with an alnico V though.

The JB is the same pickup as the Distortion but with an A5. Slap a large Ceramic magnet in the JB and you have a Distortion.

The jazz neck sounds good with a trem block guitar but is too lame otherwise.

The FS neck is too dark for most uses IMHO but I suppose it's very good for high-gain neck run and plink-plong-planks.
