I know there are a few Cincy fans on here, so this should be fun
Brandon Phillips is a giant d-bag. I don't know if he was trying to fire up his team or what, but it completely backfired.
For those not familiar with the situation, he called the cards a bunch of b!tches over and over, saying how we complain too much.
So last night, he is up first. He taps Molina (our catcher) on the shin pads, which is common among players when they get along. Molina kicks his bat away, so Phillips taps him again. Molina isn't taking it at this point, so he says to Phillips that he isn't his b!tch. Then Phillips starts jawing at him, and the benches clear. Things seem to be getting calm, then the whole group starts grabbing each other and heading back towards the backstop. Next thing you know their pitcher Cueto is against the backstop kicking our start pitcher (Carpenter) in the back with two feet up in the air. Our backup catcher LaRue comes in and he gets kicked in the face, spikes up. Carpenter has marks all over his back, LaRue has a concussion and facial lacerations from the spikes.
I can't really express my real opinion on here, because the filter would probably edit out half my words. Phillips and Cueto are both giant female body parts. Phillips has gone 1 for 10 this series, and Cueto didn't win yesterday. The Cardinals did what they had to do, which was win the first two games to get even. And Rasmus just hit a grand slam off Arroyo.

I back the Cardinals.

agreed ..Philips was a giant d-bag that's not how you fire up the team..IMO
If he hates a team dont be all cozy by doing his love tap to the catcher...
But as far as those guys getting kicked or hurt in the brawl "tough crap" if they did not want to fight or risk injury they should of stayed out of it ..like most of the smart ones did.(where was Pujols at?)
But you have to admit that Carpenter is a whiny Beeotch.... That said He is a great pitcher...
Great line
"If Chris Carpenter isn't whining about his own teammates, he's whining about someone else"
-Chris Welsh, FS Ohio
LaRussa the drama queen
Cardinals manager Tony La Russa didn't necessarily enjoy watching the contest from his office. He claimed that he vomited four times because his stomach was churning so violently throughout the nine innings.-Bernie Miklasz, St. Louis Post Dispatch
Ps....as we speak we are getting stomped again by the Cards ...... just like LaRue's face...

Look at Scott Rolen moving a pile of Cardinals! Had this gone on, perhaps the Reds would have won something this series. I'm pretty sure Carpenter was about to get a heck of a beat down. It wasn't much of a skirmish until Chris Carpenter started running his mouth. Cueto's kicking was probably uncalled for, but in his defense he was getting backed into the backstop. I still say it was under control until Carpenter started running his mouth at Baker. Shoot, Carpenter was needlessly jawing at his own player Monday night. I guess he hadn't gotten enough griping in between then and the brawl.
I did not like hearing Phillips' comments the other night. I knew that was going to back fire big time. Not that what he said isn't completely true (Cards have complained about "slick" baseballs in several parks) but his delivery was going to fire up the Cards more than the Reds. That kind of talk belongs in football and basketball, but it's rare to see in baseball, and I don't like it at all.
All that said, I've gotten along fine with Cards fans when they've come to GABP. I think the "hate the Cards" thing has been blown out of proportion. Brandon Phillips may hate the Cardinals, and while they are division rivals, we Reds fans don't hate the Cards with anywhere near the fervor that we hate the Cubs and their rude loudmouth fans that come to our ballpark.
I appreciate the passion, though. Small and medium market teams have to find every way to scratch and claw to the top. I love the fact that the Reds have traded 1st place back and forth with the Cards this year. I don't believe that the Cards are in first place to stay... I think they'll continue to trade back and forth through August. I just think it's great that the Reds are on the same level as a team with $20mil more in payroll for 2010.
I suppose that's enough rambling for now. You all probably stopped reading after the first paragraph anyway.

Great entertainment. They all could be on the Jerry Springer Show.

The Astros/Cardinals rivalry a few years back was a lot of fun...both teams equally powered. Some years we were better, some years you guys were. Right now we aint crap though...
I'm tired of seeing the Cards staying in the race and I'll always hate the Cubs, so a part of me hopes the Reds take the central this year![]()

It's only natural. The Cubs are so much fun to hate, though it takes a little more energy to hate a team that sucks. It's easier to hate the Cards right now.
I still think I'd like to see Rolen vs. Carpenter. Not because I enjoy watching a good fight, but because I prefer to watch a good ol' fashioned ass-whoopin'.![]()
