Default Seth Lover or Antiquity for a LP Standard

    Hello everybody,

I've got a 78 original LP Standard that I use a lot for recordings, it has the original T Tops that they sound great ,but since I all my guitars I like to use the bridge pup with no tone connected (for a thicker rock tone) this way the bridge T Top sounds a little sharper..
So I'm thinking about to replace it (or them 2) with something with Alnico 2 bars to have softer highs, and I saw 2 interesting models :

    1) The Seth Lover
    2) The Antiquity

Which one do you guys suggest me to try?

    Thx

    Foster

Depends. The Seth is going to be sharper, have a honkier midrange, and be slightly higher in output. The Antiquity is sweeter, with softer lows and highs and has more overall transparancy to it.

That's pretty much what I've found with Seths and Ants in LPs.

Of the two I prefer the Seth because I found it just cut through better and suited my 70s influenced classic rock style.

I think the Ants do what the Seths do, which is a more "alive" sound with some extra sparkle, but that the Ants do more of it and there's no real reason to choose Seths over Ants.

    Hi Jeremy,

with the Alnico 5 pups I agree with you, but with some Alnico 2 (like with the 78 that I've got into my Strat) I've found a thicker tone not using the tone control, yes, maybe it's a little open too, but in a sweet and pleasant way...

    Rock on!

If you like the T-top you could just put a resistor in to mimic the load of the tone control.

Good idea, but in this case I'll prefer to keep the tone connected for more flexibility.

So I've finally tried both (Seth Lover bridge & Antiquity bridge) , and they're both fantastick pickups, much better sounding than the stock T-Top, and you feel they're also close to each other about tone, but in the end, after a very long comparison, my vote is for the Antiquity!

I feel it's more balanced, without too much extra honk, and it sounds sweeter and rounder, and last but not list, it sound awesome with the tone disconnected too, where the Seth Lover sounds too sharp.

Great you found you tone! i use to set of Ants and Seth. Only one Seth neck has still the original mag, it mates with a PG bridge. With the Ants i use A3 and UOA5 in the bridge. The second Ant bridge has a A4.
I get the feeling the A8 will blow your skirt up more so -Edgecrusher

+1. Simple cheap solution: connect the tone control!

I think the Ants sound better with full strength magnets; so with a mag swap I prefer the Ants. Stock I prefer the Seth bridge.

IMO I'd leave the stock neck pup alone, otherwise I'd do a Pearly Gates neck/Seth bridge. I think the PGn is the best neck bucker Duncan makes, including Antiquities.

Hey y'all. My vote goes to the Ants. I just bought a second matched pair (neck and bridge) from the custom shop because I wanted non-aged gold covers for my MIK Prestige Heritage Pearl Supreme (a fancy Lester-type axe). Man, they just kill!

I've never tried Seths and with how fantastic my Ants sound, I don't see that I ever will. Good luck on your quest. Peace. Mike

    Howdy,

Seth Lover or Antiquity. Hmm..isn't that kinda like chosing between Jennifer Lopez and Halle Berry?
