Default patb 3 and emg exg?

I am looking to maybe get a patb 3 one of these days and I was wondering if anyone who uses it will think that these will make an intresting combination or not?

It is already wired up inside the guitar(alder body maple neck rosewood fretboard) I have rubbish pickups atm, so anything will be an improvement!

I don't use it to full, but it does complement my muddy pickups now.

Will the effect be too much with the patb -3b?

Should I rather look at the 1b or maybe alternative 8?

I like having a very large range of sounds.

Or will it maybe create an intresting effect?

I am FOS if anyone was wondering

I've heard nothing but good things about the PATB 3, so much so that I've got one coming to replace a JB in my custom guitar. It has been described as having a good amount of output, but with clarity - whatever that means.

I can't answer about the emg's specifically, as I don't have them. If they're active then it could be interesting trying to combine them with passive pups, if it is do-able at all.

Tonally it depends on what music you want to attempt as to whether the PATB 3 will work. I've read on this forum that 10k is about the magic number for hot paf type pups. If this type of sound is what you like (or your heroes use) then you can't go far wrong IMO.

Your guitar woods are also neutral/balaced in tonal output too, so there is no need to compensate with 'skewed' tone pups.

How would you describe the mids?
Say if your amp is on 555 would the mids be full or cut.
From the look of the tone chart, it would seem to be a very mid cut pickup which would not be what I am looking for.

How can the mids be described?

Sorry, its not in the guitar yet so can't help you. My guitar is also different, as it has soft maple body with a hard maple carved cap (think heavy Les Paul type guitar). What it sounds like in my guitar will be different to yours. The custom family may also be of interest, as the Custom or Custom Custom are much punchier, and along the similar lines to the original PATB.

Also - what music styles do you play. If you want versatility then a series/parallel/coil tap switch may be the go. If you have pickup covers the tripleshot will do that too.

Already have the tap :P I am just scared that the patb 3 will be too mid scooped in tone.

There is no way to test it in South Africa(without driving a few hundred km and then still only maybe) so I am digging through the forums trying to create an idea of the sound.

I like the natural sound of the guitar, so I need pups which complement it, obviously not 81/85 set as from hearing them in 4-5 guitars I noticed that they take over the sound of the guitar.
