Update, after talking to Gibson today on the phone they state the Muir top on the body is closer to a maple cap in tones. And the Preciosa fretboard is in between that of rosewood and ebony.
Could explain why the guitar is bright as with the chambered body.

In that case, it makes sense. You're not getting the depth or body of the solid mahogany. Still, it shouldn't be that far off that a decent pup selection wouldn't get you there. I mean, a LP is still a LP.
I'm wondering if the AP2s wouldn't give it what you're looking for...

See - what I just read was that the guitar needs some bass boom, a bit o mids, and not so much highs....
Bass + mids = DiMarzio
Or an A2P.
This thing is not tonally very LP at all. And a pup with booty may still not sound good - it will just remind you waht it doesn't have even louder...
Major Update:
After looking over the complete guitar setup again baffled by the flat/thin sound out of a chambered LP studio i found the problem.
The strings pass over the saddles correctly then hit the back side of the bridge piece traveling at a steep angle down to the tailpiece. For some reason i completely did'nt see this at first.
So if i raise the tailpiece to help clear the strings off the bridge it would have to hang 1/2 in the air. So i choose to top wrap the strings over the tailpiece and leave the tailpiece flush to the body instead and the strings cleared the backside of the bridge and major Mojo returned.
Now the guitar rings and sustains correctly with a balanced tone.
I'm thinking a JB would wake it up some more with 80's tones i'm chasing.
As for the 498T , i still think it sounds thin and sucks. It's got that Burstbucker kind of tone going on that just annoys me. At this point i'm not sure a mag swap will make me like the 498T pickup. I'm sure the winding in it along with the magnet has something to do with it's overall tones.
So it's like having a new guitar again at this point.

The strings hitting the backside of the bridge made that much difference in tone?!

Yup, made the guitar thin and flat sounding. The thinness is probably from the metal on metal of the strings riding on the steel bridge. And the flat lifeless tones i believe are from the strings not vibrating normally since the strings were laying on the bridge. Definitely made a huge difference.

Great. I'll have to check my guitars and make sure none of the strings are hitting.
