    Exclamation Pickup Suggestions?

Im fed up with the Dimarzios (evo bridge/breed neck) in my ibanez rgr321ex (tune to drop C)

Whats the best SD pickup for neck/bridge for drop C tuning,
i want a tight bass sound with nice amount of treble tht can go thru soloing n chugging rhythm guitar

would a distortion/59 or a JB/jazz set do the trick?

my ibanez is a basswood body, maple neck

    yep,
the evolution sound sterile and not tht good for heavy chugging riffs

would a 59 sound good with the distortion?

If I were you I would lean towards the custom, if boominess is an issue with the neck pup I would forget the 59 and try a pearly gates or a jazz.

Super tight bass is what makes the guitar sound sterile. You need the low end to "swirl" a bit to give the sound life. Unfortunately, that's a lack of tightness.

The Evolution might have been a bit too much for your ears as well, it's supposed to be high output and quite middy. Great for Vai soloing, maybe a bit too present in the mix for chords? I'm currently abandoning my BlazeIIs in my Ibanez because it just felt like the bass was too woofy combined with a distinct lack of character in the mids and highs. Too much output with not enough "magic". I'm trying an Invader set instead

I have an Invader set in my Parker and love them. I really like the Invader in Mahogony guitars. Is your Ibby basswood?

What about the Bill Lawrence L-500XL ?
Are they good for drop tunings, chugging rhythms and lead guitar work?

The JB is sometimes loose and gutless in basswood, it certainly was in my RG570. Some people love it in basswood, but it's more of a lead specialist than a rhythm pickup.

Your model appears to have a fixed bridge, so I'd probably look at a TB-10 Full Shred or a TB-4 Distortion. The TB-5 Custom is pretty impressive for downtuned metal as well.

The Full Shred is probably the most articulate, is very tight, but has the least bass. It can sound huge, though. Vivian Campbell's "Sixgunz" for example, and then there's Rob Zombie's guitarist who uses them all over the place.

Distortion has an amazing bite for thrash. The Custom just sounds huge, a more balanced hot ceramic PAF tone.

They all sound great tuned low, question is which flavor best suits you.

Pantera's Dimebag Darryl thought so. Another very articulate pickup, very tight but sometimes a bit light on bass. Very tight, though. He used it with solid state amps until late in his career.

look at the Duncan Distortion, Duncan Custom, and the Dimarzio Steve's Special. -I prefer the DSS in Basswood. But I only tune down to Eb.

    thnx for the responses guys,
i think i'll be putting a Bill Lawrence L500xl in the birdge position
*the BL is suprisingly cheaper than a used Duncan Distortion here

what should i put in the neck position?
    for nice smooth solos?

I'd probably pair it with another BL. I'd probably go for an L-90 myself, as a slightly more P90ish voicing without losing humbucking interests me. (Buck Dharma used to use a variety of Bill Lawrence pickups live in Blue Oyster Cult).

If that's not your thing, one of the lower output L-500 models would be a good match.

If you want a more conventional humbucker, the '59 is commonly paired with the L-500XL. That's what Dimebag used, though he tended to do odd things like remove all the screw polepieces, as he only used it for cleans.

A 'reversed polarity' '59? That's odd. All you do is switch the hot and ground wires.
