Default new sh-6 vs older sh-6

I had an older non logo sh-6 with a jdj (if i remember right) sticker on the back then I swapped in a newer logo'd. Sh-6 into the bridge of my Les Paul.
Seems like the older one sounded much better to my ears.
    Setup difference?
Or were they made differently? ??
Does anyone know if there was a difference?

You sure that isn't a JBJ (wound by Maricela Juarez) -- that'd be the SH-4, though, which would certainly explain a large tone difference.

Main difference between SH-4 (A5) and SH-6 (thick ceramic) is the magnet, but you might check if there's a difference in resistance. Some players really like it when they luck into one that's wound a bit hotter.

If it was a DDJ, it might just be the winding.

I haven't directly compared my 80's DDJ with a modern DD, but with the same mags (A2, A8, UOA5) in the same guitar, the DDJ is quite different than a modern JB. Could just be the MJ wind, could be different materials, could be because it's not heavily potted, could be different wind, I can't say. The DDJ is really f*ing nice though.

A lot of the old DDJs and JBJs are wound hotter. Which interestingly is what the Custom Shop does for the artist custom models based on the JB as well.

JDJ seems an odd compromise between the two labels, though, which is why I asked. (:

Everything wound by Maricela is MOJOAPLENTY.

Consider yourself lucky to come across anything wound by her from late '80 early '90.

My #1 has a '59n wound by her and you'll have to kill me and cremate my body to get me to part with it.

    GOD SAVE THE MOJO QUEEN!

My DDJ has actually measured between 15.9 and 16.2, so it's not overwound, underwound if anything, and the coils have slightly different readings too.

My recollection was incorrect it was indeed a ddj.
I swapped it out for new logo that wasn't stripped.
    I want another now.
