SD has a little more bottom end...its a little more PAF-ish. Both have great definition. The FS is a touch more modern sounding. Neither is compressed. SD has a unique pick attack...I heard it as "clanky"..

A nice middle ground between the 2 is the PATB-3...

Hi mustaine-who,do you mean that PATB-3 while being designed to sound PAFish, they actually have modern kinda sound with chunky and tight bottom end with great articulation?

    Sounds like what I after

That is EXACTLY what the PATB's do. The PATB-3 is the most vintage sounding of the bunch. The Original PATB-1 is a great pickup too, and doesn't sound anywhere near as hot as it's ohm reading would lead you to believe. In a trem equipped guitar they really do an amazing job for everything from classic rock to old school hard rock and metal. I would imagine that the PATB-2 Distortion would do most anything you asked it to do metal wise.

The entire PATB line doesn't get the props it deserves, due to the unorthodox appearance. Once you get past that and listen to it, you will be a convert.

The PATB-3 is amazing. The sound is full, not compressed, slightly scooped, clear with cutting highs. Everything you what to hear from a slightly overwound PAF. And i am the one, who sold his Brobucker shortly after its purchased - it could not compete with the PATB-3.
But....but i didnot find a guitar in which i liked the look. Thats the only drawback with this pickup.
