    Default SD 59 with alnico 2 magnets

    I just wanted to share this with everyone but I've read many things on 59s with alnico 2 magnets.I have a set of 59s in Epi Les Paul but I wasn't happy with the 59 neck being to bassy so I swapped out the a5 for a a2 magenet and I was really happy with the swap so I decided to do the same with the 59 bridge and was surprised how good it sounds.I found the tone to be I guess you can call it cleaner and I can hear more of the notes.I use very little distortion and once I made the magnet swaps it opened the tone more you can say.I've tried different combinations as far as pickups but after trying this I'm really happy.
    I know many people have done this before and I just wanted to share with everyone.Thanks to Captiantightpants for your help.

    The '59A2 is basically God's own pickup. I could probably fill 90% of my electric-guitar needs with them.

    Glad it worked for you. I'm really encouraged by all of the positive responses everyone has had about magnet swaps....of all kinds. Seems like everyone is finding their own little tweaks. I'm actually surprised SD doesn't offer some different magnet choices for some of their winds....so many people are doing it.

    I'm about to do some magnet swapping in my CC, APH(n) and a PATB-1. Going to try UA05's in the bridge pups and A3 or A4 in the APH.

    It doesn't make it too boomy or bright like I find the 59'(n)? The APH is by far my favorite neck bucker of all time, but I find myself lately wanting just a bit more clarity out of it while not losing any of the sweetness or soft edges it has naturally.

    I guess the worst thing I can do is put it in and not like it, right? What differences did you notice when you added an A5 to the APH?

    ^ certainly doesn't sound like a '59n, no.

    i hear the A2Pn as somehow being warm and bright at the same time, with it's own character (i think of it as being like a little mini-JB);
    with an A5 mag there's more happening in the lows and the minds are a lot 'harder' (pls excuse my lame description), and that vocal kinda chewiness is lost.

    still a very cool sound; strangely doesn't sound anything like the stock A2P or 59n.
    if i didn't like the A2 '59n more, i'd have left it in my LP.
    but it suited mah teleh!

    The '59 wind is so good as you can use ANY magnet you want without making it sound bad, not even on purpose.

    Every magnet swap serves to taylor-made your particular needs in your particular guitar/rig. Too scooped? Get an A4 and you're done. Too boomy? Get an A3 and you're done. Too cold and sterile? Get an A2 and you're done. Too wimpy? Get an A8 and you're done. Too bold with an A8? Get an UOA5 and you're done.

    That's the beauty of the '59 wind... you just can't fault it!

    Need mid-scooping? Get an A5 and you're done.
