loss of high end string harmonics

I switched a screamin demon pu out to a pealy gates pu, The screamin demon had no trouble bringin out the harmonics on the g,b, and high e strings, but the pearly gates while it has made the low e,a,and the d string pull harmonics alot easier. The high ones have become really hard to pull out. could this be the fact that the screamin demon is a humbucker and the pearly is a trembucker? this is the only difference I can come up with. feed back please!!

Nope. Trembucker construction is the same as a regular humbucker except the polepieces are spaced slightly further apart to better suit the wider string spacing on most Fender, floating trem and some modern Gibson guitars. There are many differences in the wind and magnet between the demon and the PG, though.

Have you tried adjusting the screw polepieces on your pickup? Raising the screws under the treble strings slightly will bring out more high end from those strings and could possibly help make those harmonics ring out a bit more easily.

How recently did you change the pickup? How recently did you change the guitar strings?

+1 on the string question.

I didn't think it would make as big a difference as it did, but I went from one brand to another and completely lost the sparkle in the sound. I really thought my cable had died - I've had gain issues with a bad cable.

I've never swapped out strings without them having broken before, but I did in that case. And the difference afterwards confirmed it. I changed nothing else. I've tried several brands and only ran into this with one brand, which I will never use again. Not a matter of cheap/expensive either. This was a middle of the road cost string set.

Kudos to Funkfingers. Even if that isn't the case here, it's an excellent question and something to definitely consider.
