Default A8 mags the life blood of Adam jones tone?

I now have a8 mags in both my bridges. An alt8 in 1 and a c8 in the other. I have never been chasing a tool tone but I have to say thru my dual rec they both invoke undertow tones so much without trying

They have that strong mid thing with still a good bottom end and smooth top. Really diggin them right now

I'm pretty sure Adam Jones doesn't use A8 mags, but who knows. I think that he works some serious magic with his amps for the most part. However, I totally know what you are saying, having the right guitar stocked with a C8 is distorted bliss, it makes you want to ring out the chords and hear the bloom instead of just going speed metal, so in that respect it works really well for Tool riffs.

Adam Jones used the JB for years. I dont know if he ever changed it up though.

They seem to be getting along. I'm not much of a middle user. For me mostly it's neck for cleans and bridge for dirt but I can see myself using the middle for some clean stuff with a bit more cut.

I'd say the way I have it set up the middle is the sound of the 59n bottom end with the alt 8 filling out the missing mids more and giving some alt 8 character to the top

I find the 59n to be a pretty powerful pu. Even with much hotter pu's in the bridge it always seems to be the main sound in the middle . I have the alt8 about 4mm away from the strings the 59 much further but the 59 is still keeping up

^ that's my experience with the 59n too, it's not just you.

sounds like a good combo for a good 'live' modern heavy type sound, btw

Yeah hope its gonna work live. Just jumped in the deep end and took a gig in 2 weeks. We got a new drummer at the end of the year and haven't jammed for 3 weeks cause of Xmas stuff so it's gonna be a trial of fire. But that's rock and roll
