I love 12 string accoustics. I have never bought one cuz I dont play accou that much, plus I figure the 12s are somewhat limited to just strumming unless you really have skill.
But, Ive been looking at them alot lately. today, I played a Taylor grand auditorium 12 and it played like #$!%! butter.. The action was lower and lighter than my accoustic. Ive never looked at the GA line cuz of the smaller body and no electronics, but it still put out a nice big sound.. Definately want!!
    Any drawbacks to that size?

Just a side note, I only went to the shop to look for a cheap accou for one of my daughters. found a nice sounding and playing Ibanez for about $180

BTW, Im guessing the model was probably a GA-3

Believe me when I say that some of the most amazing music in history was made on equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.

i've always wanted one of those Fender electric 12-strings.

and almost bought a 12-string Ibanez Artist recently...

Almost all of my playing is rhythmic powerchord strumming and riffing...imagine how fat it would sound with octave strings?

I dont think it would sound fat at all. Mcquire and the Byrds rythem tone was never really a fat or thick sound. They tend to be really bright and cutting.
It wears thin after awhile., in fact, I can't stand it.

The grand auditorium Taylor guitars are my favorite. I played a Taylor 12 string just a couple of week ago. It was used and like $850 or so. I thought that was a great deal. Every Taylor 12 string I've ever played had amazing action.

I have a Yamaha FGX-412C-12. I don't play it that often, but it sounds great for what it is and it's a fun guitar to play.

My old college roommate had a 12 string acoustic. I took it over and it became my go to guitar. It was really fun to play, and I loved the sound. Once you start playing normal on that, the electric feels like cheating. I miss playing the 12 string...I'd say go for it. His wasn't anything special, so I'm sure the Taylor would be excellent. If you're not too stuck on electrics, you will probably love it (after some time to adjust)!

I play live on a regular basis, and all I ever play is a 12 string, for acoustic. It's harder, because I do pick on it like I would a normal guitar, but the sound is just not something I'm willing to compromise on. At this point, it's almost become part of what my band sounds like, and it's part of my style, so I dig it a lot.
