What is the difference between the Duncan Modular preamp and the EMG Afterburner 20db boost preamp?

The BMP is an actual preamp device. It splits the coils of the pickup and runs them as if they were Blackout AH-1's. The Afterburner is simply a boost. The BMP modifies tone.

A boost is a preamp. But the active electronics in the Blackout modular preamp are pretty different from a mere boost.

The AB is a clean boost ( aa very good one, in fact). It's designed to NOT modify the sound. the Blackout Pre, from what I gather, is made to make passives sound like actives.
Ain't nothin' but a G thang, baby.
Supposing one were to combine a set of P-90's like a pair of phat cats with the modular preamp.
1) Is it still possible?
2) Tonal Differences?
3) Elimination of 60hz hum of single coil/P-90 pickups with high volume/high gain?
(Will they get the same effect that a humbucker gets in terms of hum canceling)
