    Default Lizzy Last Night

Went to Bilbao for the weekend to see the Thin Lizzy gig last night.

Absolutely amazing gig. It was fantastic to hear all the classics live. My girlfriend said I was like a kid because of the huge ear to ear grin.

    He did great.

I was very impressed with Vivian Campbell too, made it look ridiculously easy.

It'd be hard for me to go see any incarnation of Thin Lizzy without Phil Lynott.

I hated "Queen" with Paul Rodgers too.

But that's my own hangup. Glad it was a good show & that you enjoyed it.

I hadn't heard anything about Vivian doing the tour till now. Here's a pic of the current lineup. And for the record, Boys are Back in Town is my least favorite classic rock song of all time. Man, I'm sick of that F'in song! haha

Couldn't agree more about Boys R Back... we've played it to death too! I'll bet it was great to see the guys out there doing there stuff!

On a side note, until fairly recently we thought my mate "H" out of UK Lizzy tribute band Dizzy Lizzy was going to do the tour with them doing the "Phil" part but alas it was not to be. There are so many great tracks I keep telling the guys in the band we ought to do but they are lazy ass S.O.Bs.... Emerald, Black Rose, Chinatown to name a few.

I have mixed feelings about this. Phil Lynott WAS Thin Lizzy, the only irreplaceable member. Not quite the same but it felt strange seeing Canned Heat a couple of years back and the only guy from the original band was the drummer. Also on the bill were Dr Feelgood with NONE of the original members. Just feels kind of not right to me.

Growing up in Ireland, he was huge and it was a national tragedy when he died.

There have been various formations of tribute lineups / concerts, some I´m sure worse than others.

From my point of view it´s never going to be quite the same, but I´m glad I had the opportunity to see them live with a different lineup rather than not at all. It´s not like it´s made up of incompetent players. They´re all really solid musicians.

Eg. even if it wasn´t as part of Lizzy the idea of seeing Gorham live has always appealed to me too...but playing all the classic Lizzy tunes...

I went with a mate who saw them live in the 70s and we were both blown away.

It´s great to see a memorial statue of Phil in Harry St. (Dublin) every time I go home too.

I was in Dublin a few weeks ago and saw that... Pretty cool stuff. Then the day after was the anniversary of his death. Saw some great TL covers that night all over town. It was nice to see a guy like that get remembered that way.
